Position Overview

The position of Rotordynamics Key Expert supports the maintenance and continued development of technology for the legacy Dresser-Rand and Siemens turbo-compressor products in order to preserve Siemens service capabilities for this product line. Areas of focus include design integrity, product cost out, standards maintenance, and new technology integration. This individual will act as a technical advisor for other areas of the company including SCM (category sourcing), Innovation (R&D), Operations (NC & RCCA), MK&S (proposals / training and tools) as well as local site engineering functions. This individual will also work with the global Product Lifecycle Engineering team to share best practices and lessons learned as well as drive harmonization of standards and processes across all TCP product lines. There is an expectation that this individual will be responsible for mentoring and developing talent of the local site engineering teams as it pertains to the fundamentals of Rotordynamics and its specific applications to centrifugal compressors.

The position will report to the Head of Product Lifecycle Engineering – Legacy Products for TCP EN.

Responsibilities

Design Integrity and Harmonization

·  Ensures compliance to design standards from local order execution and customer technical support teams through participation in design reviews.
·  Acts as a technical advisor to the local Engineering teams when design solutions fall outside of current limitations.
·  Supports customer order execution in performing and/or reviewing project related detailed analysis as needed
·  Assist local teams in root cause investigations in determining cause and corrective actions. Ensures all design related corrective actions are captured and any required changes to standards or processes are made
·  Shares lessons learned with the global TCP engineering community
·  Works with the global Product Lifecycle Engineering team to harmonize design standards, processes, and tools across TCP

Standards Maintenance and Technology Integration

·  Ensures all product design standards are up to date with the latest technology and design practices.
·  Participates in gate reviews of TI development projects advising on the potential impacts to the product line
·  Incorporates new developments from TI into design standards and processes.
·  Acts as an early adopter for new technology and tool developments.
·  Provides feedback to TI regarding any functional issues with new developments that need addressed before rolling it out in a production environment
·  Drives or supports the execution of development projects on TI's behalf as requested.

Product Cost Out

·  Supports the generation of new cost out ideas related to Rotordynamics by funneling lessons learned during order execution or field incidences to the Product Cost Out Program Manager. Such changes impacting cost related to Rotordynamics may include but not limited to modifications to rotors, bearings, and annular gas seals. May also participate in any necessary activities (i.e. workshops) required to generate new ideas.
·  Acts as a technical advisor during the implementation of cost out measures ensuring any impact to the safety, reliability, and performance of the machine is properly addressed.
·  Contributes to the implementation of cost out measures by conducting or overseeing technical tasks that may be required.

Personal Training and Development

·  Participates in the onboarding of new hires with Rotordynamics training
·  Fosters the development of Rotordynamics experts in local engineering functions through coaching and mentoring
·  Trains all stakeholders (i.e. Engineering, Marketing & Sales, etc.) on new or updated standards, processes, and tools
·  Organizes and conducts topical group and individual training sessions (single/multi-location), as required

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

·  Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
·  At least 10 years of Rotordynamics experience with the ability to perform in-depth lateral analysis such as undamped critical speeds, unbalance response, and damped stability.
·  Understands and can explain the theoretical calculations behind damped and undamped eigenvalues analysis, fluid-film bearings, and annular gas seals.
·  Experienced in resolving vibration issues of rotating equipment both in the field and on the test stand.
·  Knowledgeable of the physics behind centrifugal compressors and the interactions of the working fluids on the rotor-bearing system.
·  Ability to communicate complex problems and solutions in way that a layperson can understand.
·  Required amount of travel with the position is expected to be less than 20%

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

·  Preferred education could include master or doctorate in engineering discipline
·  Capable of performing both steady-state and transient torsional analysis.
