Company description

Your internship will take place in the Operating Company Smart Infrastructuru, Business unit Digital Grid.

Smart Infrastructure brings together energy systems – from the intelligent control across the grid to medium-voltage distribution system, through a broad range of low-voltage and control products, to the point of consumption – with Siemens’ broad portfolio of building technologies, structured via the different Business Units.

 

Utilities, building customers and industries are being supported with a wide range of applications.

At the point of connection between the grid and buildings – at the grid edge – there are exciting nascent markets including prosumption, electric vehicle infrastructure, energy storage and microgrids. We will combine physical solutions and digitalization across the focus areas of electrification and automation.

 

Assignment description

The industry sector is an important stakeholder for the Dutch government in order to achieve its CO2 reduction goals. To meet these goal, several mandatory measures regarding energy efficiency have already been introduced to the Dutch industry. Companies in sectors like oil and gas, chemicals, iron and steel and eventually food are being characterized by their energy-intensive processes. For these companies the challenge is to become as efficient as possible regarding their energy consumption in order to reduce their CO2 footprint as well as their energy costs. Different technical measures could be taken by companies to achieve the aforementioned reduction.

Siemens has several different solutions that are able to gain insight in the energy-efficiency potential so customers are able to start reducing their energy usage. In order to address the right needs from the customer, it’s important to know what the (technical) drivers are for starting with the adoption of energy efficiency measures. For example, some production processes wouldn’t allow an easy implementation of these measures. It’s also important to know to which extent potential customers are already known with the potential of energy efficiency measures.

 

Activities during your internship could be:

·         Market analysis by conducting customer interviews

·         Identifying the customer journey at Siemens

·         Doing a stakeholder analysis

·         Designing plan of improvement

Eventually you will come up with an advise for Siemens Smart Infrastructure, which indicates the drivers for energy efficiency measures per customer segment and in which way we should address them during our customer journey.

 

What background do we need?

·         Following a master study in the field of International Business, Innovation Management, Industrial Engineering and Management;

·         Affinity with energy technology and manufacturing processes;

·         Commander of the English, if you are comfortable speaking Dutch that is much appreciated;

·         Ability to think out of the box.
