Role Summary/Purpose

GE Aviation, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of electrical components, sensors and systems for aircraft, industrial, military and space. GE's products span the globe and can be found on almost anything flying from two place trainer airplanes to giant 747’s and rockets traveling to space. We presently have an opening for a 1st Shift Machine Operator 1, working 7:00AM to 3:30PM.
Essential Responsibilities

·  Operate mechanical equipment such as drill presses, turning equipment, sanding wheels & belts, buffing and grinding wheels; Operate optical comparator
·  Perform visual inspection of parts subsequent to assembly steps;

Verify and change tools when necessary; Report problems to appropriate resource and/or Coach 
·  Keep all team members informed on special problems involving operation or set up
·  Receive guidance from Level 2-4 employees
·  Cross-train other employees as needed based upon knowledge and experience
·  Compliantly complete all written and/or electronic labor tracking documentation
·  Operate hand tools such as scrapers, files, burr-knife, burr-bits, emery cloth, etc.
·  Communicate with team to ensure all team members are aware of new processes and/or issues
·  Perform mechanical inspection to verify in process parts for conformance to print & specifications using standard measuring equipment
·  May assist with proto-type or first time builds
·  Assists Engineering and/or Team in development and/or improvement of layout procedures and process sheets
·  Review consumable inventory to re-order needed supplies;

Perform daily machine preventative maintenance;

Keep equipment in operation by making timely adjustments
·  Proactively work to improve efficiency and quality of products
·  Utilize proper PPE, safety equipment, and follow safety procedures
Qualifications/Requirements

·  High School Diploma and/or GED
Eligibility Requirements: 

·  This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment. 
·  Prior working knowledge of machine shop operations
·  Ability and willingness to use basic hand tools and measuring devices (i.e. - dial calipers, rulers, tape measures, protractors, micrometers, gauges, etc.) as required within department
·  Proficient in use of basic computer applications
·  Basic understanding of blueprint and process sheet interpretation
·  Understanding of basic mathematical principles, may have to do conversions to decimal system
Desired Characteristics

·  Prior experience and usage of micrometer, calipers
·  Past experience working with drill presses, turning equipment, sanding wheels & belts, buffing and grinding wheels
·  Experience in a self-directed teaming environment; Past experience in a manufacturing environment
·  Lean manufacturing knowledge
