Job Description

What if YOU start your journey with US!

As part of a university curriculum in masters training , you are looking for a mandatory internship or integrated into a gap year that will allow you to validate your studies. The internship duration is 4 to 6 months maximum.

We offer you to work in a world-leading company which is at the heart of a digital transformation, at the cutting edge of research and innovation.

We are looking for a Student Internship – Bio-sourced composite materials (m/f) who will be joining us at Airbus site in Toulouse. The core-area of the internship is on bio-sourced composite materials.

This internship is to be filled from Q2 2020 (the dates are subject to a certain flexibility).

We are a team in Airbus Technology Office doing materials-research for aircraft, helicopters and satellites. We are especially focusing on long-term research supporting sustainability and electrification-topics.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) have excellent specific properties and therefore are widely used in the aerospace industry. Today, high performance carbon fibers are obtained from Poly-Acrylo-Nitril (PAN) synthetic precursor derived from the petro-chemical industry.

In order to limit the environmental footprint, we would like to investigate the options which bio-sourced fibres and resins might offer. The bio-mass for the fibres and resins might come from different plants or for algae for example.

At the same time, the mechanical performance of such bio-sourced composites is crucial for our products. For this, a solid comprehension of the morphology, behaviour and variability of the constitutive elements of the bio-sourced composite is important.

We are investigating the possibility to maybe jointly host this internship in Airbus Toulouse with some complementary work at Institut Clément Ader in Toulouse.

·  Tasks and Responsibilities :

You will be working under the supervision of your manager who will help you identify your professional objectives and support you in the development of your skills.

Your main activities will include:

- Supporting the selection of the source of the bio-mass for the fibre and the resin, for example coming from wool, hemp, lignocellulose, bamboo, algae, ….

- Supporting to define the sample-geometries and the following tests, co-define if the tests would be done on the fibre-level, resin-level or composite-level,

- With our laboratory team, support tests like optical microscopy, fractography, material morphology, first mechanical tests potentially also including the investigation of e.g. the influence of different temperatures,

- Supporting the test-result analysis and contribute to a first evaluation with regards to an environmental impact of the studied bio-sourced material.

·  Required skills :

You are preparing a diploma level Bac +5 in the last year of your academic studies (e.g. master 2) specialising on material science, ideally on composite-materials.

You have negotiation level in English and French.

You have a first experience in material testing and comparison of different materials and their pros and cons. Ideally, you have already started to look into bio-sourced materials.

You are able to rigorously analyse and synthetise information while still remaining curious and open to alternative technical options.

You have good interpersonal and communication skills and are able to integrate into a team and be a flexible team player.

Depending on the specifics of the offer, you may have to travel to another locations.

If your profile catches our attention, you will be invited to perform a video interview during which you will have a few minutes to tell us about your background, motivations and your professional project. Afterwards, your application could be proposed to the managers for further review.
