The Discovery Research Biomarker Technologies team at Roche Diagnostic RED will be conducting research projects during summer 2021. The projects will be aimed at testing an innovative immune receptor repertoire based assay in the area of cancer diagnostics or other diseases. It is expected that there will be opportunities for summer interns to learn about Roche's strategy in NGS diagnostics, while working on specific assay research tasks. Immune repertoire sequencing is a novel diagnostic tool with huge potential as it just sees its entry into the clinical diagnostic. Allowing to “read” the immune response enables new monitoring and detection possibilities driven by data and personalised health care.

Three areas of research will benefit from assigning specific work blocks to students:

1. TCR and BCR repertoire sequencing from representatively sampled tumor tissue material

2. Analyzing the generated data using inhouse analysis tools.

3. Optimization specific aspects of the assay and evaluating new analysis tools.

The project will have several areas of specific hypothesis testing, where summer interns will participate in design of experiments, executing laboratory experiments, including NGS, contribute to data analysis, and present results to RED teams and across RMS.

Qualifications:

·
Major in molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, or similar.

·
Completion of a four or five year college program.

·
Principles and rationales of Next Generation Sequencing

·
Ability to work independently in a molecular laboratory

·
Detailed record keeping

·

Given the current uncertainty of the global pandemic and work from home situation for 2021, the majority of internships are currently planned to be virtual with the option for interns to work remotely from within U.S. Borders. Internships that operate in business critical roles, such as Operations and Research & Development may require you to work on campus. We will keep candidates informed if this changes.
