POSITION SUMMARY:
Instrument Maintenance Technician II responsibilities include following documented procedures to maintain
testing and processing equipment in the Reagent Manufacturing area. In addition, an Instrument Maintenance
Technician II must provide expertise in troubleshooting routine and unusual equipment failures and
malfunctions. An Instrument Maintenance Technician II will work with other technicians in troubleshooting and
scheduling technician work to accomplish timely preventive maintenance and instrument calibrations.
Responsibilities will also include work on projects for new equipment and/or processes, assistance with
validations, and helping with on-the-job training of other technicians and equipment operators. The Instrument
Maintenance Technician II will also be responsible for monitoring equipment maintenance needs and updating
preventive maintenance schedules as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participates in the preventive maintenance of the QC and Histology Instruments (monthly, quarterly, yearly).
- Maintains and executes the schedule of preventive maintenance service for all maintained equipment
including coordinating with other technicians and equipment owners.
- Coordinates with Facilities/Maintenance for maintenance requiring their input.
- Identifies and implements improvements to equipment and instrument maintenance to minimize unscheduled
downtime.
- Responsible for maintenance and repairs on automated machines throughout the Reagent Manufacturing
area.
- Participate in the design and implementation of new equipment in the Reagents Focus Factory.
- Performs validation work for new or modified testing and manufacturing equipment.
- Provides expertise on the development and understanding of assembly drawings, test procedures, and other
written instructions.
- Completes appropriate manufacturing and maintenance forms accurately.
- Reviews maintenance forms and ensures that they are completed in a timely basis.
- Troubleshoots routine failures and malfunctions of QC and Histology instruments as well as other
manufacturing equipment.
- Provides expertise on complex failures of test instruments and manufacturing equipment.
- Performs instrument calibrations as required.
- Monitors work to ensure quality, and continuously promote Quality First Time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

Formal training (i.e. Technical Institute, College, Military) in engineering or related technical field required.

Associates degree preferred

Experience:
5 years of related experience with troubleshooting and repair of electronic or mechanical equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expertise in reading and understanding electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics, assembly drawing
and work procedures.
- Use of test equipment; for example, digital voltmeter and precision weight scale.
- Use of hand tools; for example, screwdrivers, wrenches, nut-drivers and ruler.
- Experience in applying automation concepts and familiarity with sensors, motors, cylinders, etc.
- Skilled at accurately diagnosing and correcting equipment problems and non-conforming test results.
- Skilled in the use of PC-based applications such as the Intranet, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Excel, and Oracle.
- High level of understanding of the theory of operation for systems being maintained. Capable of providing
training and troubleshooting advice on manufacturing and testing equipment.
- Correctly interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and
comfortable in seeking clarification.
- Exhibit and promote professionalism in interactions within group and with individuals at all levels in other
groups.
- Ability to write reports, professional correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effective presentation of information and respond to questions from groups of peers, managers, clients and
customers.
- Experience in the application of mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
