Overview of the opportunity:

KPMG Law Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution section assists companies and individuals to protect against, prepare for, and respond to challenges by the tax authorities. KPMG Law is involved in each stage of the tax dispute - from pre-litigation to litigation in provincial and federal courts and tribunals.
We are currently seeking an experienced associate lawyer with two to five years of experience for our Montreal office to assist our tax dispute and litigation practice throughout Canada. The candidate will sometime be required to travel to our Toronto Office to assist on various tax matters.

What you will do:

·  Conduct legal research and prepare legal procedures (submissions, representations and pleadings)
·  Assist with the preparation of and actively participate in trials before the federal and Quebec courts;
·  Advise clients on the tax dispute resolution process and represent clients with tax authorities;
·  Assist clients in responding to federal and provincial audits;
·  Prepare notices of objection and written representations to the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec;
·  Prepare legal opinions with respect to the tax consequences of transactions, and performing post-transaction audits for tax efficacy and litigation risk. At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need extra time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.

What you bring to the role:

·  Bachelor of Laws and Master of Taxation (or the equivalent) with admission to the Quebec Bar;
·  Two to five years of tax dispute and litigation experience gained at a leading law firm;
·  Knowledge of Quebec Court procedures (essential) and Tax Court of Canada procedures;
·  Bilingual in French and English, both verbal and written;
·  Resourcefulness and high level of autonomy;
·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as administrative and time management skills;
·  Excellent communication and research skills
·  Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion
·  Dedication and motivation to achieve high standards of client service and professionalism
