Role Title: Global Retail Bank and Wealth Management Performance Analyst

Business: RBWM

Role Purpose

This role holder, supporting the Retail Bank and Wealth ManagementCAO, is responsible for providing:

·
Strategic costs focused support to the Global RBWM COO and Global RBWM CAO through analyzing enriched costs insights and advising on cost performance / profitability risks & opportunities. This includes liaison with diverse group stakeholders across HSBC and creation of information for use at Executive Management forums, including Stakeholder Management in RBWM, HOST and Finance. Specifically covering the following aspects:

Driving efficiency throughout RBWM organization supporting achievement of annual plan and positioning HSBC for long-term

·
Managing performance to the AOP / rolling forecast, and identifying improvement opportunities across all aspects of the business

·
Preparation for and follow up from a number of executive and management committees, covering costs management (direct and indirect) for RBWM

·
Driving increased cost insights through advanced analysis using financial and non-financial MI

· Project Management of ad-hoc assignments.
·
Financial Management – providing robust financial planning, management, tracking and governance, in constant interaction with Global RBWM, HOST and Global Functions

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· Support performance management to the AOP, and identifying improvement opportunities across all aspects of the business.

Driving efficiency throughout RBWM organization supporting achievement of annual plan and positioning HSBC for long-term

Supporting the RBWM CAO and COO on all Financial Management related matters

·
Oversee the COO financial plan execution; track progress, highlight risks and issues, and report on progress as required to a wide range of stakeholders

·
Financial control of the RBWM COO organisation; financial analysis and commentary, oversight, governance, and control.

·
Review / challenge RBWM financials, both direct and indirect costs (e.g. AOP, targets, actuals)

· Ensure cost drivers are identified, challenged and managed efficiently
· Ensuring Global savings & control initiatives are well communicated and coordinated with the regional COO teams


Customers / Stakeholders

·
Support the financial performance management/administration of the RBWM COO and CAO

·
Accurate interphase with RBWM, HOST, Global Functions and Regional COO teams to drive reporting updates and delivery to plan

·
Manage the relationship with RBWM, HOST, Risk and Finance across the relevant operational processes the specific strategic programs

·
Manage the interphase with regional COO teams to drive execution and planned delivery globally.

Leadership & Teamwork

·
Provide a professional representation of the CAO office

·
Maintain excellent working relationships across RBWM, particularly with the wider COO teams

·
Proactively engage and coordinate activity where duplication or cross over may exist

· Influence greater team communication and collaboration

Operational Effectiveness & Control

·
Ensure appropriate governance is implemented along with robust documentation and supporting management controls.

·
Provide management & support for the governance meetings chaired by the RBWM COO / CAO

·
Continuously reassess the operational risks associated with the role

· Adhere to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and timely implementation of internal and external audit points

Flexibility and adaptability – constantly changing priorities and tasks that are potentially highly restricted in nature, unpredictable and wide ranging, complex and time sensitive requires the simultaneous handling of a broad range of issues

Stakeholder considerations – the role the highest quality, most succinct output that is suitable for executive and senior management and external parties (including regulators) at all times, regardless of pressures

Staying abreast of external developments in global regulation and competitor activity. Proactive identification of issues and initiation of structured discussions with the key stakeholders across the RBWM, HOST and Global Functions community

Sensitivity and trust – engendering a true sense of urgency, pace, community and collaboration across indirectly managed areas across the Group


Role Context
· HSBC is going through an unprecedented period of change in its move to a sustainable globally led and connected organisation. There is increasing external scrutiny and pressure on the Financial Services industry from governments, regulators, media, investors and brokers. The role holder needs to understand the potential impact of all these changes on RBWM and HSBC and drive RBWM to respond accordingly. The role holder will be required to interact with internal parties at all levels of management and therefore needs a very strong level of professionalism and gravitas.

Role Dimensions
· Contributes to cost governance of c $14bn and provides valuable insights to executives and regional / country stakeholders

Management of Risk
· The role holder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation. The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology and services. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and by owning and managing any areas of concern.

Observation of Internal Controls

The role holder will adhere to and enforce adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

· The role holder will implement the Group compliance policy. The term ‘compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply .This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

· 
Strong financial analytical background and proven ability in financial/analytical reasoning (e.g. using KPIs), including being able to contextualise financial data into business activities and conclusions

· 
Demonstrated business knowledge, such as experience of leading a complex, global P&L unit

· 
Strong understanding of HSBC structures, processes and objectives across the Group

· 
Strong knowledge of the external environment – regulatory, political, competitors etc.

· 
Strong understanding of RBWM business – functionally, financially and operationally

· 
High level of personal drive and motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously across HSBC

· 
Proven experience of positive, challenging interactions with Senior Managers across the business and Finance

· 
Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language to support problem analysis

· 
Outstanding relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills

· 
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels across the Group
