Role Summary/Purpose

As a Research scientist – Materials behavior in the Structural materials Organization, you will perform research, design, and development of polymer matrix composites, ceramic matrix composites, and/or related areas to develop and implement innovative material solutions for a wide variety of applications across the GE businesses.
Essential Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers at Global Research and the GE business units in the problem definition, conceptual design, analysis and validation of new materials/structures with a wide variety of material architectures (e.g., Polymers, composites, cermet, additive or other complex multi-material structures).
• Independently perform model & experimental research work & execute on project tasks on time.
• Be responsible for developing IP strategy, participate in technology road map and competitive assessment to drive new technology programs.
• Serve as a technical resource to resolve key, short term high risk technical issues in technical focus areas.
• Develop and execute short-term & long-term research programs in composite materials.
• Deliver effective presentations, reports and publications to stakeholders & leadership in Research & GE businesses
• Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
• Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
Qualifications/Requirements

• PhD in Materials Engineering with strong background in experimental mechanics of composite materials.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate, plan and conduct research projects with specific objectives and milestones with financial constraints.
• Demonstrated ability to work in team-oriented research environment.
• Strong analytical skills and communications skills.
Desired Characteristics

• 3+ years of industry experience in experimental mechanics of composite materials.
• Experience in Testing of composites – Static, Fatigue and Impact testing; Test Method Development; Damage monitoring, Fracture Mechanics.
• Experience in composite materials application, development, failure analysis.
• Ability to meet deadlines; execution mindset and sense of urgency.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, teamwork skills and ability to form and work in cross-functional and cross-organizational teams.
• Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion
• Ability to anticipate customer needs and ensure that they are met
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
