Role Summary/Purpose

As a member of this world class team, the FACTS Project Engineer will execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, testing, start-up and commissioning of the electrical aspects of fixed series capacitors (FSC), static VAR compensation (SVC) and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within GE’s FACTS portfolio.
Essential Responsibilities

As the FACTS Project Engineer, you will:
Write high voltage equipment specifications, issue material purchase request forms, and evaluate vendor quotations for FACTS equipment including capacitors, reactors, rotating equipment, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnects, power transformers, high voltage cable, and protection and control systems
Work closely with designers in the development of detailed design drawings, bills-of-material (BOM) and cable schedules for complex electrical infrastructure projects
Develop and execute start-up, testing and commissioning plans
Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders and support organizations
Contribute to proposals including writing and / or reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and the development of clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses
Contribute to cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction
Contribute to RCA's (root cause analysis) and execute corrective actions
Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001
Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college (or high school diploma and 10 years of equivalent engineering experience).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time as required, which may include remote locations and international travel
Ability and willingness to comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies

Desired Characteristics

Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college
Professional Engineering registration
Prior FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) application or design experience
Experience in mechanical and civil engineering
Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, and ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided
Experience in installation, field-testing and commissioning of HV equipment, including required safe work habits
Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Demonstrated creativity with ability to lead a team and be accountable for team results in order to deliver a high quality product on time and under budget
Ability to develop and implement standards and structured programs
Strong presence in front of the customer with demonstrated commercial experience, such as Project Management
Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, and familiarity with AutoCAD and Microstation
Ability to automate design tasks through Visual Basic programming of Excel, AutoCAD or Microstation
