Job Summary:
The managing editor assumes overall responsibility for the language services function within the EY Catalyst team.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Accountability for product language quality
· Define language quality standards (in conjunction with existing EY standards) for content-based products and ensure these standards are implemented throughout the development process.
· Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure that all regulatory and legal requirements are met, including copyright and IP requirements.
· Play an active role in the development and execution of the content strategy.
Management of editorial excellence
· Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to language style guides for writing, editing, proofreading, and translation; including plagiarism and independence requirements.
· Ensure all authors, editors and proof readers are trained to adhere to language standards and have access to all required supporting materials.
· Provide feedback, coaching and mentoring to authors to improve writing and editing standards.
Management of language services capacity
· Build and maintain a network of highly skilled and EY-vetted language experts to meet fluctuating resource demands based on the production schedule.
· Train and coach external resources in relevant standards.
· Manage external language resources including scheduling, project management, delivery, quality and cost and invoicing.
· Provide editing, proofreading and quality assurance services as needed.
Management of translation process and deliverables
· Maintain the standards, rules and processes that make translation cost-effective; ensure that everyone is trained in these standards and processes.
· Stay abreast of leading translation practices and methodologies and feed this knowledge back into the team through regular communication and coaching.
· Work with translation vendors to scope, cost, schedule and manage translation projects.
· Oversee the integration of translated content back into content management systems.
· Conduct quality assurance on translated content.
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:
· Determine quality standards – make judgement calls on whether or not standards have been met.
· Allocate work appropriately based on skill requirements of each job.
· Identify and assess potential legal risks in content (such as IP infringement or potential independence violations) and make recommendations.
· Decide where to invest effort to get the best language quality in the most cost-effective manner.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
· Highly experienced editor with extraordinary attention to detail.
· Experience working in a corporate publishing environment.
· Working knowledge of translation processes.
· Strong project management skills.
· Ability to build a maintain a network of independent contractors.
· Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure.
Supervision Responsibilities:
· Maintain complex relationships with internal and external players.
· Manage through influence.
· Manage projects to budget and approve relevant expenditure.
· Manage content authoring workflow.
Other Requirements:
· The incumbent must be proactive, disciplined and self-managed to be successful in a predominantly remote team.
Job Requirements:
· Relevant tertiary education or equivalent work experience (10+ years in an equivalent role).
