Job description

ENGIE Laborelec is a leading expertise and research centre in electrical power technology. Drawing on the skills of 280 highly specialised engineers and technicians, the company is active on the whole electricity value chain and backs a large set of customers in the fields of generation, transmission, distribution, storage and end-use of electricity, with a particular focus on the energy transition and the 3 D's - decentralisation, decarbonisation and digitalisation.

All forms of electricity generation fall within our capabilities, whether centralised or decentralised, from fossil and nuclear to renewable technologies. Directly or indirectly, we also work for a large array of other customers, including grid operators, large industries, SME's, cities, regions or residential prosumers.

With a strong focus on high-value delivery for our customers, we combine expert knowledge and operational experience with state-of-the-art analysis and measurement capabilities to provide operational research and development services, specialised expertise and tailor-made global solutions. We guarantee the independence and objectivity of our solutions and recommendations.

Established in 1962 to support electricity companies with a wide range of specialised services, Laborelec is today a cooperative company, with ENGIE and independent grid operators as shareholders. Laborelec has a global presence, with activities in more than 60 countries and offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Chile and Abu Dhabi.

Mission

We are looking for a (junior) engineer with a background in mechanics, electro-mechanics, materials science or equivalent who will reinforce our start-up Robot team.

Remote controlled and automated testing are emerging in the field of maintenance & inspections. Thanks to new technologies, manual labour can be automated and otherwise unreachable areas can be inspected by drones, crawlers and climbers. Our goal is to take these technologies and render them 100% safe, upholding quality standards as defined by our customers, to provide a valid alternative for already existing more conventional approaches.

To better streamline our activities in this field, we have created a new team at Laborelec focused on robotic (inspection) activities. In a first phase, this is organized as an incubator team to allow for more liberty to develop and provide augmented support for different teams and experts where needed.

Your role is to become (in time) an expert in the field of non-destructive inspection (NDT), with a niche of your own regarding inspections through the means of a robot. You will be responsible for the translation of competences in non-destructive testing of these robotic activities.

You will integrate NDT modules with a driving mechanism and write work instructions for fully qualified & tested inspection procedures for on-site inspections in nuclear and renewable energy production, but also for our clients in the (petro-) chemical and other industries.

Supporting your mission, you can rely on your colleagues in the incubator team, experts in robotics, I&C, IT or electro-mechanics, as well as the experts from other teams such as materials, NDT or AI experts.

Non-destructive techniques include among others ultrasound inspection, eddy current inspection, hyper spectral & infrared imaging.

Responsibilities

You will:

·  In support of a project team, execute services in your domain of expertise.
·  Help to define client' problems and propose, with your colleagues, a technical solution.
·  Create an internal network of colleague-experts in other teams that will help you grow your competence and complete the projects you are working on.
·  Support other teams (most often the NDT team) in services of their own. This can include international trips or on-site activities at nuclear power plants that will allow you to keep your expertise up-to-date.
·  Support the team leader in the definition of the strategy for your team. Supply him with information of techno watch, feedback of projects and clients or your own insights.

·  You possess an engineer's degree in mechanics, electro-mechanics, materials sciences, robotics or alike.
·  You are willing to develop a career as an NDT expert, with a focus on robotic applications.
·  You are both creative and critical and enjoy solving new problems with a view to helping solve a customer's request.
·  You are energetic, innovative, and enjoy new challenges.
·  You have a strong technical affinity and like to know how things work.
·  You are a team player who naturally shares knowledge and experience with colleagues and asks for help when appropriate.
·  You are fluent in English and French or Dutch, with a willingness to improve where needed.

ENGIE Laborelec offers:

·  An independent incubator environment inside the organization during the first months (years) of this new team. This to start the business outside of the operational departments which gives liberty to develop according to your best insight.
·  An exciting career in a leading research and competence centre, with prospects within the international energy ENGIE Group.
·  A competitive salary package with good extra-legal benefits and a company car - the position is open to external contractors.
·  A healthy work-life balance with flexibility in working hours and work location
