ENGIE are recruiting for a Legal Counsel to be based in Leeds (LS12 1BE). This is a 12 month fixed-contract working full-time or part-time over 3 or 4 days per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

Purpose of the Job

The post holder will be required to provide timely and commercial legal advice, to assist in the negotiation and drafting of commercial and contractual matters such as tenders, projects, variations and ongoing contractual and operational matters and to deal with risk management, governance and compliance for the ENGIE UK business division.

Key Accountabilities

Responsibility for legal support on a broad range of complex commercial outsource transactions;

Providing commercial legal advice;

Assisting in the governance of transactions at local and group level;

Working closely with colleagues including throughout the Group and with customers;

Management of external legal resource on particular projects;

Providing advice to operational teams on appropriate strategies in relation to disputes that have not yet been formalised; Energy industry experience would be useful, but not essential; and

Involvement in developing and delivering training on various issues for colleagues across the business.

Qualifications

UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister with ideally 3 to 7 years of PQE.

Knowledge and Skills

Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including outsourcing, contract and commercial.

Knowledge of the energy industry preferred but not essential.

Experience of UK public procurement is helpful.

Strong drafting and negotiating skills.

Ability to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.

Ability to manage a sizeable workload in a fast paced environment.

Comfortable with stakeholder management but also able to work with colleagues at all levels of the business.

Experience

Experience of commercial outsource transactions

Strong commercial contracts lifecycle experience

Experience in advising on pre-litigation contract disputes

Experience in leading on complex transactions

Some experience of energy supply/projects, and public procurement preferred.

Able to think on their feet to assess risk and exercise sound judgement.

Enthusiastic about advising on a variety of size and type of contracts.

Confident and have integrity sufficient to inspire trust and respect when dealing with people, regardless of their position or level.
