The Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) are expanding rapidly to meet the demand for agile driven solutions from our extensive customer base. Market leaders in offering creative, rapid and cost efficient solutioning to a multitude of business and process needs, the DTC is the ‘thinktank’ where this work is born, much of it is first of type, proof of concept innovation projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in an Agile environment. As a technical mobile application architect, you’ll share the responsibility for the digital transformation activities for our clients. You’ll have a vision your projects and communicate this to developers and non-developers alike. You’ll ensure a project’s overall technical design meets user needs and acceptance criteria, whilst conforming to time and budget constraints. 

You’ll thrive using agile methods and enjoy working collaboratively with departments and multidisciplinary teams. 

Responsibilities: 
• Design new and enhance existing mobile applications for the enterprise, selecting necessary platforms and technologies to meet project requirements and user needs

• Work closely with product owners and UX designers to define, document and communicate solution architecture and approach for new applications and features

• Provide technical leadership and consultancy to both internal and external development teams, ensuring infrastructure is fit for purpose, whilst meeting time and budget restraints

• Build and maintain technical roadmaps, looking ahead for future opportunities or blockers and ensuring decisions by development teams align with the strategy

• Encourage communication across multiple development teams to identify strategic requirements and dependencies

• Help develop services by contributing code, testing technologies and producing rapid prototypes

• Be involved in the wider development community, identifying good practices to adopt and sharing your experiences, e.g. through blog posts, tech talks at conferences

• Enable a positive technical culture, applying agile methods to development and completing quality assurance practices

• Mentor developers, setting standards and ensuring delivery targets are met  
• Advise product managers on the estimated effort and technical implications of current user stories, as well as those in the backlog

• Form relationships with external suppliers

• Help enable the reuse of patterns, tools, and components across the whole government service landscape 

Essential Skills:   
• 5+ years’ experience leading technical teams and delivering business-focused services

• Ability to convert customer’s business requirements to technical requirements

• Experience in architecture mobile applications for both business to consumer as well as business to employee apps

• Experience in cloud infrastructure and leveraging cloud services (Azure, AWS)

• Understand Native and Cross-Platform technologies for developing mobile applications

• Experience in designing micro-services

• Experience in developing mobile, cloud and web applications  

• Experience designing and implementing secure systems

• Understanding of how to influence senior management and communicate with both technical and nontechnical audiences

• Experience in working with agile development teams 

Desirable Skills:   
• A view of technology as an enabler of great digital services

• An eagerness to influence how mobile application and digital services are delivered for clients

• Understanding of agile environments, continual delivery techniques and DevOps cultures

• Stay abreast of legislative changes i.e. GDPR, and the impact on delivery

• Experience mentoring technical staff and managing stakeholders

• Experience working in a dynamic organisation with rapidly expanding users and changing requirements

• Interest in forming best practices, standards and policies

• Keep abreast of emerging mobile trends and mobile application security issues

• Experience initiating projects, participating in workshops to gather user needs and building prototypes

• A willingness to travel to client locations
