JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The primary function of the Supervisor Maintenance/Electrical is to schedule, coordinate and lead maintenance activities in such a manner as to promote a safe, efficient operation in which quality product is manufactured.  This position requires a high level of concentration on production problems, to the maintenance response in planning to resolve them, to their actual resolution, and to prevent their recurrence.

    This position has a direct impact on productivity and performance throughout the plant.  This includes proper utilization of headcount and equipment.  The position also directly impacts product quality in the production operations.  This position is accountable for regulatory compliance of the Maintenance operation including equipment change control.

    Performance can be directly measured in end results.  Examples of the potential for negative results are:  1) Poor line performance resulting in lost product or overtime required; 2) Jeopardizing a batch or a number of batches if equipment such as seamers and sterilizers, are not functioning  correctly; and 3) Poor performance could place Abbott in a position where FDA inspections or Corporate Compliance Audits could cite violations of regulations that would be serious quality concerns, possibly resulting in recalls or a temporary production shutdown.

    Routinely analyzes equipment problems, evaluates repair alternatives, and decides on appropriate courses of action.  Directs subordinates to carry out these plans.  Creativity frequently required minimizing downtime.  Routinely evaluates operations by visually observing operating conditions, Preventive Maintenance records and production records to maintain and increase productivity and maintain the plant as a safe, efficient production facility.  Routinely handles personnel problems. Routine emergency and preventive maintenance on buildings, grounds and equipment is accomplished directly and generally without upper management review.  Special projects within these areas are reviewed with upper management for guidance on specifications, cost, etc.  The FLL, Plant Maintenance is free to use all available resources to maintain production within guidelines of Q.A., Production, SMP, GMP and State and Federal Rules and Regulations. 

    Directly lead Electricians and Instrument Technicians assigned to the respective shifts.

    -        Perform shift safety inspections, pursue completion of safety projects, issue all applicable safety permits, regulations, guidelines and training and investigate safety accidents and/or injuries for all shift employees.

    -        Organize and supervise the planned shutdown activities for all production equipment and facilities.

    -        Assist with budgeting and management overtime budget. Plan and schedule overtime for production as required minimizing downtime and supporting production operations.

    -        Support the Maintenance manager in the department's efforts to maintain a highly productive department.

    -        Assure shift coordination and follow-through on daily problems.

    -        Coordinate and analyze maintenance related production problems and performance shortfalls with corresponding maintenance corrective and preventive action.

    -        Manage Maintenance human resource issues, as required.

    -        Prepare and conduct annual performance evaluations for hourly employee’s on-time.

    -        Plan and coordinate department monthly meetings.

    -        Assure that all department training requirements are met.

    -        Manage instrumentation program across all shifts

    Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering. Or 4yrs equivalent hands on experience

    Maintenance leadership: 1 – 2 years. Experience working with electrical systems as a technician or a leader.

    Good communication skills, both written and verbal required.  Strong technical and leadership skills required.  These communications, technical and leadership skills are required due to the high degree of interaction with many levels and areas of technical matters and motivational needs of the department.
