Industrial Engineer


The Industrial Engineer will work with all elements related to manufacturing products within the assigned Value Stream. This involves overseeing the quality, efficiency, and capability of manufacturing processes with the intent to optimize the flow of products thru the value stream focused on reducing product cost and lead time. The position will improve processes thru leveraging proven continuous improvement methods ensuring manufacturing can meet customer demand and drive towards zero defect production. The position will work directly with Quality, Engineering (Product Quality, Design, and Manufacturing), Operational Excellence, Planning, and Procurement in the resolution of Corrective Action Requests for both internal and supplier related product defects with a focus on prevention.

Job description

·  Manages the product value stream(s) thru the manufacturing shop ensuring flow of product is optimized and can meet TAKT (customer demand) levels.
·  Studies processes to ensure capability thru use of Statistical Process control (SPC) and continuously identifies ways to improve by reducing non value added activities.
·  Develops system designs and plant layouts
·  Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, throughput, and changeovers.
·  Utilize various tools; Statistical Process Control (SPC), Advanced Quality Process (AQP) tools andmetrics, to proactively monitor and identify improvements to either internal or external processes
·  Provide input and direction on Root Cause Analysis for Corrective Action Requests and Vendor Corrective Action Requests.
·  Conducts process audits to ensure adherence to processes and correct any gaps identified.
·  Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to document new processes or modifications to existing ones.
·  Works with Operational Excellence to create Visual Factory thru improvements to 5s and establishment of visual metrics.
·  Research and purchase new manufacturing technology.
·  Ensure assigned projects are completed within schedule and budget.
·  Utilize various tools; Statistical Process Control (SPC), Advanced Product Quality Planning techniques (APQP)and metrics, to proactively monitor and identify improvements to either internal or external processes.
·  Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
·  Owner of ITP Standards and Customer Specific ITP's.
·  Executes Product Quality Reviews and leads improvement strategies.
·  Leads Cost on Non Quality (CNQ) reduction initiatives.
·  Ensures systemic quality issues related to the process are addressed with preventive measures through regular collaboration with the Product Lifecycle Management Team, Production, Engineering, and Quality.
·  Collaborates with Engineering supporting new product development efforts, First Article Inspections, and ensuring all manufacturing process related activities are adhered to.
·  Support and drive cultural change around our Core Values and Foundational beliefs.
·  Maintains a close working relationship with Engineering counterparts on process alignment and leveraging best practices.

You are meant for this job if
·  Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred or related Engineering degree.
·  A minimum of 3 - 5 years of hands on experience in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma (DMAIC), and other continuous improvement and Operational Excellence required.
·  Lean Six Sigma Green belt a plus.
·  Experience working with cross functional teams and implementing Kaizen events.
·  Working knowledge and utilization of quality related tools including, but not limited to, Statistical Process Control (SPC), APQP, and Quality Systems.
·  5-10 years of technical knowledge; manufacturing knowledge of flow meters, electronics or measurement equipment is a plus.
·  Strong problem solving skills
·  Strong written and verbal communication skills including strong listening skills.
·  Must be able to communicate with many different areas of the company. Will work with operations, product management, engineering, quality, and procurement.
·  Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn about new processes with very little information provided.
·  Experience in a manufacturing environment and demonstrated understanding of various manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, metrology, and assembly/testing.
·  Experience and familiarity working within a shop union environment.
