Internship: Security of Linux-based gateways for Industry 4.0 M/F
Regular/Temporary
Temporary
Job description
In the context of Industry 4.0 , many different sensors and actuators are being deployed in factories in order to optimize factory automation and especially maintenance operations. These communicating devices are often based on standard components and may use radio communication for ease of deployment. They are connected to the rest of the IT infrastructure of the plant via gateways , some of them based on Linux .
Beyond their functional role (transmission and transcoding of information between node and the infrastructure), these gateways have a security role to play: they have to separate and confine different software communication stacks and possibly micro-applications against potential attacks on the radio links.
To achieve this, Linux provides isolation functions that the intern will:
- Analyze and compare,
- Setup appropriately for the given applicative use case,
- Write a reference document explaining the mechanisms used, the choices made,
and detail the steps required to reproduce the setup.
This internship is hosted in a security team of 15 people based in Rousset, France , in collaboration with other STMicroelectronics teams.
