Job description
System Environment Engineering
The System Environment Engineering team is a multi-site, multi-disciplinary organisation supporting the needs of the Imaging Division of ST Microelectronics. The System Environment team is organised in two sites, one in Grenoble and one in Edinburgh. The team is a central group responsible for the development of the hardware platforms required by the applications, product, test, validation and characterisation teams and by our customers.
The Role
This position is for an Electronic Board Designer to work as part of the overall System Environment team to define and develop robust and flexible hardware solutions to match product needs and support internal and external customer requirements.
The hardware being developed ranges from high-speed image capture solutions, host/device bridge boards, power management and lighting control solutions. As our hardware developments are used in various environments and at various locations around the world it is vital that what is developed is clearly documented, optimised, repeatable and reliable and that future needs are considered as well as current ones.
The Electronic Board Designer will also be expected to support the hardware in the field and to manage distribution and returns.
The roles envisaged are:
Hardware development – Schematic capture, PCB design, Microcontroller firmware development, design verification and testing.
Hardware support – enhancements, user support, distribution and returns.
Hardware re-work – board debug, failure analysis and repair.
Although this is primarily a hardware role some software skills particularly of scripting languages would be advantageous.
Profile
Key Skills and Experience
Experience of schematic capture tools – preferably Altium.
Design experience with serial interfaces such as USB, MIPI CSI2, SPI and I2C and using microcontrollers
Analogue circuit design including low voltage power supplies, DAC and ADC.
Knowledge of PCB layout/tracking rules for maintaining signal integrity.
Circuit simulation with standard SPICE tools
Good communication and organisation skills
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
Additional Skills and Experience
Knowledge of Altium PCB layout tools would be an advantage
Familiarity with software languages such as Python, C++ and C#.
Microcontroller firmware development
Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams – mechanical, optical, validation, characterisation, test etc.
Understanding of good board design for EMC/ESD testing
