Siemens Mobility Rail Division has an immediate opening for an experienced System Safety Engineer at their Sacramento, California Facility.  The candidate will have the ability to conduct safety analyses of our Locomotives, Coach Cars and Light Rail trains.  We are looking for professionals with the drive to work in the high paced rail industry to build new and innovative designs for our future vehicles. 

In this role, you will assist the Engineering Department personnel to ensure proper execution of the design, compliance with safety industry standards and customer specifications.  Requires the ability to review/interpret complex electrical circuits/schematics, to collect/understand sub-systems design details  and to elaborate vehicle level and /or trainset safety analysis. For this you will need to understand and perform Failure Mode Effects Criticality Analysis, Hazard and Fault Tree Analyses and eventually Sneak Circuit Analysis. Must be detail oriented and take ownership of projects.   Must be able to work independently on projects to conduct and lead safety discussions with systems engineers and to drive customer safety reviews with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

·  Communicate safety requirements to suppliers.
·  Perform Failure Mode Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
·  Deliver Preliminary and Sub-System Hazard Analysis (PHA & SSHA).
·  Provide Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
·  Collect Occupational Safety and Health Administration related supporting documents.
·  Capture safety requirements from our suppliers to support analysis throughout the design.
·  Elaboration of Safety program plans.
·  Collaborate in design reviews.
·  Create and compile safety analyses for submittal to customer.

Education:

·  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 or more years of similar work experience (preferred)
·  Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering with 10 or more years of similar work experience

Required Skills:

·  Excellent interpersonal skills - verbal, written and presentation.
·  Ability to work independently.
·  Detailed knowledge of RAMS-related safety topics including FMECA, relevant Military standards such as MIL-STD-882 and MIL-STD-1629A, safety analysis (preliminary, fault tree, fault hazards, operating, and interface hazards)
·  Experience in participating in safety review boards.
·  Experience creating FMECA, FTA and SSHA, Sneak Circuit Analysis (SCA).
·  Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical equipment typically installed on railway vehicles in order to apply this knowledge to an in-depth Safety analysis of the components, the interfaces between these components and the overall vehicle.
·  Ability to identify safety critical functions both in hardware and in software.
·  Ability to read and interpret schematics.

Desired Skills:

·  Knowledge of rail vehicle level functions.
·  System integration experience.
·  Knowledge of both electrical and mechanical systems.
·  Experience working in a manufacturing environment, interfacing with other systems engineers
·  Experience with communicating with suppliers and customers, internal and external
·  Creating and presenting designs for internal and external design reviews
·  Experience with Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)
·  Leading safety design review boards.
·  Rolling Stock experience is a plus.
·  Knowledge of SIL levels from the standard IEC 61508.
