Topic description:
The integration of renewable energies into the grid and the increasing demand for electrical power from electric vehicles and heat pumps pose challenges for distribution grids today and in the future. Local Energy Markets (LEM) are a promising concept to harvest the flexibility of small-scale energy systems at the distribution grid level and e.g. reduce costly grid expansion. In order to achieve a reduction of grid-constraint violations in the distribution grid, e.g. voltage peaks or overloading of lines, a LEM needs to consider the limitations of the distribution grid. However, detailed data of the distribution grid might not be available to the operator of a LEM. Hence, approaches for a simplified grid constraint consideration during the market matching of the LEM are needed.
In this Master thesis you will analyze, develop and evaluate approaches to consider a reduced grid topology and the interaction between a LEM and Distribution System Operator (DSO).
Tasks:
·
Literature review on simplification approaches in power flow calculations for the distribution grid
·
Overview of current approaches to consider grid-constraints in local energy markets
·
Power flow simulations on example grids
