Siemens Digital Industries in Congleton is an award-winning facility, responsible for designing, manufacturing and servicing inverters for the global industrial market. The factory is undertaking an ambitious digital transformation, to help increase competitiveness and productivity to deliver more innovative products and services to our customers. Our inverters support companies to maximise performance in a sustainable and efficient way that will reduce environmental impact.

We are looking for people who want to make a difference and who have a keen interest in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Product Design and Manufacturing. 

The challenge

This Degree Apprentice programme lasts for 4 years. 

·  A Mechanical Design Engineer will learn to be responsible for the design of mechanical enclosures and casings for mains rated electronics components, suitable for high volume manufacturing, achieving high quality, cost and timescale targets
·  Alongside the Mechanical Engineering team, you will learn to provide our Manufacturing facility with in depth product support as well as implementing cost reduction activities and ideas; you will use 3D modelling systems and our additive manufacturing facilities to produce designs and prototype to support new product introduction.
·  You will also learn how to ensure your designs obtain product approval such as UL and CE certification and use thermal modelling, shock and vibration and IP testing to ensure they are suitable for the industrial settings our products are used in.
·  You will be challenged to think innovatively and implement ideas of how new manufacturing methods and processes can be adopted in the plastic and metal forming technologies, to help us achieve our challenging business targets.

Qualifications
To qualify for this role you must have:

·  5 GCSES at grade 4 (C) or above 
·  3 A-Levels or BTEC level 3 Equivalent in a numerate subject.
What else do I need to know?

Throughout the apprenticeship there will be the requirement of occasional shift work and overtime as well as travel to other UK Siemens locations and potentially outside the UK. Travel outside of the Congleton location is usually manageable around personal commitments.
