Job description – PDM Build & Release Expert

Purpose of the position

Within Schneider Electric Digital, the Digital Engineering Practice oversees a major IT program to replace its current PDM platform and take advantage of more advanced capabilities available in the latest version of the Windchill solution. When the new Product is being solutioned and developed via a pool of Agile workstreams, we need to merge the code and develop robust builds on a daily /weekly /sprint basis and get it deployed through our various environments like Development, Verification, Demo, validation etc until production. This role needs to work closely with development teams on one side and System admin teams on the other to oversee the E2E creation, validation and deployment of our PDM software builds.

This role will directly report to the PDM CoE Leadership in Bangalore, India, and functionally liaise with Release Manager, Agile teams, architects and Infrastructure experts distributed locally as well as globally.

Responsibilities & duties

· Hands on contribution to ensure daily/weekly builds are generated successfully, available for validation on time and deployed for next steps as per the deployment plan

· Own and Improve the existing CI-CD processes & Tools set up for PDM solution development which will be an umbrella process for all development teams on Application, Migration, Test Automation etc.,

· Ensure proper version control and change control processes are applied across the various SCRUM teams, improving the processes as needed.

· Liaise with development team members, scrum masters, Release Manager, System Administrators on all topics related to software version, build, deployment, release plan etc.,

· Hands on involvement in problem solving or troubleshooting needed for each software version.

· Prepare clear and exhaustive documentation on all processes. Support the Release Engineer in planning and executing the deliveries.

· Report to leadership on key metrics describing the health of the CI-CD processes implemented with clear remediation plans as needed

Experience & Key skills

Essentials:

· Overall experience of 6+ years in a software development role.

· 3-4+ years of hands on experience specifically in software development, if this is ony PDM PLM software it will be an added advantage.

· 3+ years practical experience as a build and release engineer or similar role, again if this is on Windchill

· Excellent hands on expertise on tools like GitHub, JIRA, Jenkins, Maven, SALT

· Strong skills on JAVA, SQL, PLSQL & Oracle

· Hands on skills on UNIX

· Strong skills on scripting languages like Python, PERL

· Knowledge on virtualization and exposure to AWS.

· Influence and convince.

· Ability to handle multiple projects/efforts in parallel.

· Detail-enabled and able to document and present information to others.

· Good communication skills and ability to speak in English with variety of people from different cultures.

Academic & qualifications

Essential:

Bachelors / master's in engineering/Computer Science, or equivalent.
