POSITION OVERVIEW

Who We Are

Industrial Operations (IO) at our Swiftwater, Pennsylvania site, the largest vaccine manufacturing facility in the US, continues to develop its manufacturing assets to produce existing and new vaccines and biopharmaceuticals. The Position

The Senior Viral Technician, within the Manufacturing Technology (Mtech) function of Industrial Operation ensures the proper and timely execution of studies. The mission of MTech function is to deliver robust and efficient process & testing with associated know how transfer to Manufacturing and QC. MTech’s function also provides daily support for manufacturing and QC, toward industrial performance excellence.

At Swiftwater, we are currently engaged in developing reassortants for influenza viruses. We are getting ready with the reassortment process and preparing for Building 78, the new seed manufacturing facility, to become functional by 2022. SP’s plan is to officially use our own influenza virus reassortants developed at Swiftwater site in seed manufacturing which will favor Time to Market advantage over our competitors.

 Also, we are engaged in developing influenza virus antisera and reference antigens from potential northern and southern hemisphere candidate vaccine viruses. These reagents will then be used for potency testing of monovalent drug substance and there by timely release of drug products. We are responsible for both Fluzone and Flublok reagent development activities.

The individual in this position will be involved in cross –functional teams from various functions in IA to deliver the following:

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· 
Execution of small scale experiments and working with eggs and with flu virus reference antigen and antisera.   

· 
Running hemagglutination testing, SDS-PAGE, SRID and chromatography.

· 
Ordering and maintaining supplies and materials and shipping materials as needed.

· 
Writing Standard Work Instructions and internal development protocols and reports.

· 
Sample management between reassortant lab, seed lab, manufacturing buildings, FSL and analytical sciences.

· 
5S and lab maintenance.

· 
Flexibility to work on weekends as needed.

· 
Focus on Site Safety

Education and experience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences.

· 
2+ years of laboratory experience, cGMP preferred.

· 
Preferred influenza viral work experience on hemagglutination assay, infectivity assay, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, SRID, chromatography and working with eggs.
