Media Relations Officer Position Summary

The Global Media Relations Officer provides strategic assistance to the Global Media Relations team with oversight and direct coordination of company news (proactive and reactive) and corporate announcements with global and corporate implications to protect and enhance the company’s image while supporting the brand’s business objectives and strategies.

S/he : 1) acts as company spokesperson with agenda-setting, Global/European-based media, 2) works directly with appropriate External Affairs and GBU colleagues to develop media strategies to support Sanofi business priorities, 3) facilitates reviews and approvals at the Executive Committee level, and 4) ensures dissemination of important business media coverage across the company. S/he also supports executive Global Media Relations’ priorities through oversight of strategic media operations, including management of key external vendors and execution of key activities such as press release dissemination, media monitoring, event management and various other activities to support the team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Media Relations Officer will be responsible for a specific portfolio of activities which could include one or more of Sanofi’s global business units and/or divisions described above. Key responsibilities will include:

·  Proactive and reactive relationships with journalists; (20%)
·  Being a company spokesperson on areas of expertise / responsibility ;
·  Implement appropriate media tactics and devices: press conferences, interviews, press releases, press kits, press trips (25%)
·  Know and respect the regulatory framework for a pharmaceutical + healthcare company;
·  Social and digital engagement and proficiency (10%)
·  Interest in new creative ways to reach out to reporters: pushed stories, use content such as video, infographics, events with KOLs … (25%)
·  Support the team in taking care of daily news reports and news monitoring, sending press releases and publishing content on the corporate press corner. (15%)
·  Managing external PR agencies (5%)

II.       Educational Background and Job Related Experience

Check the job-related education and fill in the corresponding of job-related experience where applicable, identify the area(s) of specialization. 

·  Education : Generalist higher education (IEP, ESC, Celsa) or specialized communications / journalism (IFP, EFAP).  US: bachelor’s degree required, masters or higher degree beneficial.
·  Years of experience : minimum 7 years, in a communication agency, PR agency, or “in-house” corporate communication
·  Languages : English proficiency mandatory. French preferred. Additional languages beneficial.
·  An expert in media relations is a mandatory : An excellent writer, a counselor for Executives. Experience working with global / top-tier media / journalists (and the ability to understand their function, issues, methods, expectations, etc.).
·  Ability to work independently and able to deal with complex issues in an environment that requires resilience, responsiveness and flexibility.
·  Experience in management of reputation / notoriety, expertise which she/he would have gained in a multinational environment and by being exposed to the risk of changes of opinion, where the image is a major component of business.
·  Software: knowledge in using Microsoft SharePoint
