Job description

·  Job facts

At Roche, we believe it's urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients' lives and we are fearless in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

The position

As a Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunology Discovery, part of the Immunology, Infections Diseases and Ophthalmology (I2O) Department, you will generate and analyze spatial transcriptomics and proteomics / imaging data to derive detailed information about immune cell distribution, identity and function in tissues.

In this position you will:

·
Generate and analyze highly multiplex section and volume imaging/omics data to investigate the behavior and effector activities of innate and adaptive immune cells in lymphoid organs and inflamed tissues, primarily lung and gut tissues.

·
Study the role of both physical and chemical cues in controlling immune cell interactions and migration and how these processes affect differentiation events and functional immunity.

·
Understand how the different aspects of immune responses mentioned above are modulated with large and small molecule drug substances.

·
Provide insight into why some and not other patients respond to treatments, enable future patient stratification and combination therapy strategies.

You have experience and expertise in the following:

·
You hold a PhD in immunology, imaging, spatial transcriptomics/proteomics, data science, or pathology with strong expertise in the processing and analysis of imaging or spatial omics data.

·
You have an understanding of spatial transcriptomics, histo/imaging cytometry, cyclic immunofluorescence, imaging mass cytometry and related platforms and you have ideally acquired in-depth expertise with at least one such platform.

·
You have applied imaging or spatial omics technologies to study immune cell phenotypes, signaling, and function at the cellular level in complex tissues.

·
You have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships, and are an outstanding teammate. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently, to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies.

·
You have been actively engaged in scientific research continuously since your PhD (MD or MD/PhD) and ready to start an RPF postdoctoral activity no later than 5 years after PhD (MD or MD/PhD).

This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.

The duration of the RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based at the Roche Innovation Center Basel, RICB.

The start date of this fellowship is on availability. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date on your motivation letter. All applications always need to include a CV, motivation letter, and a publication list.
