Job description

·  Job facts

At Roche, 98'000 people across 150 countries are pushing back the frontiers of healthcare.

The position

As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Project Leaders/Modelling and Simulations in Pharmaceutical Sciences, you will focus on exploratory research project on establishing quantitative approaches for translating Gene Therapies (GT) for early research into humans.

The UT Southwestern in Dallas, US is Roche's academic partner for this Postdoctoral Fellowship. The partnership with Academia will provide further insights on how AAV-based platform gene transfer technologies have been developed to achieve global, efficient, and in some cases cell-type specific CNS gene delivery.

In this position you will:

·  Establish better experimental designs of animal studies for study Gene Therapies by ensuring the dose selection incorporates known species differences and mechanistic processes.
·  Develop new quantitative models to estimate PAD (pharmaceutically active dose). When dosing Gene Therapies to humans for the first time it is crucial to administer that is therapeutic active. While other modalities have established methods and rules in the past to estimate a PAD these are still missing for Gene Therapies.
·  Generate a better understanding of the biodistribution of AAV serotypes for different routes of administration in different species.

This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme.

The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.

The duration of RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based in Roche Basel with stays at our academic partner in Dallas, US.

You also have experience and expertise in the following:

·  You hold a PhD with a good understanding of AAV biology, important processes of Gene Therapies and associated challenges.
·  You have experience with data analysis and ideally have used advances analytical methods to put data into context.
·  You have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships, and are an outstanding teammate.
·  Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently, to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies.
·  You have been actively engaged in scientific research continuously since his/her PhD (MD or MD/PhD) and ready to start an RPF postdoctoral activity no later than 5 years after PhD (MD or MD/PhD)

When does it start?

The start date of this fellowship is on availability. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date on your motivation letter.
All applications always need to include a CV, motivation letter, a publication list and, if available, your PhD.
