Position Summary:

Roche is the world leader in in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) and tissue-based cancer diagnostics and a front-runner in diabetes management. Roche Sequencing Solutions is seeking a talented Bioinformatics scientist to collaborate with experimentalists on new assay optimization and to build the underlying analysis algorithms to support next-generation targeted sequencing solutions.

Are you an adaptable bioinformatics analyst who can address some of the demands of technology development, and algorithm prototyping? Are you excited about working with a group of scientists and engineers to harness the promises of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology to enable unprecedented diagnostics? Do you have a strong desire to craft code and interpret key results important for developing innovative and cutting-edge applications using NGS technologies?

Responsibilities Include:

·  Develop new algorithms and analysis methods, compare and optimize existing approaches to analyze NGS data for leading-edge targeted enrichment and other high throughput sequencing applications.
·  Analyze and interpret NGS data including extensive data QC, variant call filtering, develop and validate bioinformatics pipelines with real-world samples.
·  Work closely with reagent / assay development scientists to design studies, develop and automate analysis tools that will aid in optimization of NGS library preparation protocols. Perform statistical meta-analyses of sources of variation affecting assay performance.
·  Communicate results of bioinformatics analyses to bioinformatics groups, experimental groups, and cross-site collaborators.
·  Provide technical support and collaboration across functions, such as reagent / assay development, marketing, and global customer support, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Master's degree (in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related discipline) and 10 years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. and 7 years related experience.
·  Previous analysis experience with short read NGS data, including commonly used open source tools (e.g. BWA, SAMtools, GATK, VarScan, etc.), variant detection algorithms, variant annotation, and QC metrics.
·  Knowledge of molecular biology and statistics is required.
·  Proficiency in Python is required. Familiarity with other high-level scripting languages (e.g. R, Perl) is a plus.
·  Experience with leading projects in a technical role, including setting goals and timelines is desirable.
·  Experience with whole exome sequencing and targeted gene panels is desirable.
·  Strong verbal and written communication skills.
