Clinical Operations in the UK comprises both global and local roles made up of hundreds of people, who run phase I - IV trials across a wide number of indications. We get new innovative medicines to patients in accordance with global Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards, ensuring patient safety and that data collected from our patients is of a high quality.

As an Industrial Placement in Clinical Operations, you will play a key role in supporting key tasks across a broad range of topics, ultimately helping accelerate drug development and successful execution of clinical trials.

The Positions:

Industrial Placement in Country Clinical Operations

Country Clinical Operations UK (CCO-UK) is made up of over 150 people, primarily project managers and clinical trial monitors, who run over 200 phase I - IV trials in the UK across a wide number of clinical indications. Partnering with NHS hospitals and other institutions up and down the country, we get new innovative medicines to UK patients in accordance with our regulations. We strive for “Better Outcomes, for More UK Patients, Faster”.

As an Industrial Placement Student (IPS) you will get involved in a number of activities supporting a variety of local teams and roles across the department, with potential to build your network outside of the department.

Key activities include working closely with our clinical research sites (hospitals across the UK) to help manage our clinical trial finances and invoicing, in addition to helping organise agreements with our trial sites and vendors. You will play a key role within our safety team to process important adverse event reporting of trial subjects, and submit serious adverse reaction safety information to our UK ethics committees. You will help run reports and analysis to ensure adequate oversight of activities, such as trial master file maintenance, budget compliance and recruitment performance - as well as supporting our resourcing team manage the workload of our department.

Working in a Clinical Operations Department, you will also have the chance to work with local study teams on an as needs basis, to provide additional support for key milestones and activities - providing the opportunity to interact directly with some of our clinical trial sites and helping grow your knowledge of drug development within the UK.

IPS in CCO-UK will also have the opportunity to experience and contribute to the following:

Identifying areas of best practice, innovation and process improvements

· 
Ensuring study adherence to GCP and Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs)

· 
Non study related activities, for example forums / departmental meetings / initiatives

Industrial Placement in Global Clinical Operations

The two Therapeutic Areas, Oncology and Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Ophthalmology and Neuroscience (I20N), sit within Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG). Globally we are based at five headquarter sites; Basel, South San Francisco, Mississauga, Shanghai and Welwyn Garden City. Individuals from both therapeutic areas are responsible for providing operational knowledge, leadership and expertise and act as the interface between Roche and external parties for optimal portfolio/program/study delivery.

Position:

We are looking for four Industrial Placement Students (IPS), who will be based in Welwyn, two in Oncology and two in I2ON.

IPS will sit within Operations and become part of the study community. IPS will work closely with Global Study Managers, who are responsible for effective and efficient leadership and delivery of all operational components across study start up, conduct and close-out in accordance with the appropriate quality standards including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable regulations.

IPS will have the opportunity to experience and potentially contribute to the following:

Clinical operations activities to ensure delivery during the lifecycle of phase I to IV studies

· 
Development and management of study timelines, risk and quality plans and the evaluation of study resource needs

· 
Providing day-to-day operational management of CROs and vendors to ensure delivery against contracted scope of work

· 
Forecasting of clinical/non-clinical supplies

· 
Identifying areas of best practice, innovation and process improvements

· 
Ensuring study adherence to GCP and Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs)

· 
Non study related activities, for example forums

IPS will be part of the study community and included in working groups where they will have the opportunity to meet, work and collaborate with staff in other functions outside of Operations, such as Clinical Science, Safety and Biometrics, Country Clinical Operations and Business Insights & Analytics to gain a broader understanding of roles in the Pharmaceutical industry.

An ongoing university education in a scientific degree is required. You will have strong planning and organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time. You will have good communication skills and be customer focused. Candidates must also be professional, reliable, team-orientated and friendly.
