Job Overview and Responsibilities:
This position is in Solvay Research & Innovation Centre Brussels, in the recently created Data Management Excellence Team. Within this multidisciplinary team where R&I business and IT skills are represented, the incumbent supports our GBUs and Corporate R&I labs worldwide in the transformation of their lab data management information system, acting on IT tools, processes & people culture. He - She is responsible, within selected strategic used cases, for R&I database conceptualization from lab activity understanding, its physical implantation in our Lab informatics software (ELN, LIMS) in partnership with subcontractors, as well as providing business support to our IT data engineering specialists for equipment & data integration projects in big data and datalake environments. He (She) ensures a fast and early adoption from Researchers by building and delivering initial trainings and continuous support to the developed tools and to best data management practices. He (She) interacts with our experts in lab digitalization, automation & artificial intelligence to deliver new data-enabled innovations & services. He (She) engages in an ambitious, exciting and strategic digital transformation program of the Solvay’s R&I Labs in Brussels.

Supports the building and organization of lab experiments databases
• Understands the end-use purposes, operational needs & challenges of R&I labs and translate them into key requirements
• Identifies data sources and design conceptual data models representing the lab activity inside tables & relationships and workflows
• Implements these data models in our lab informatics tools and become a referent for these tools inside Solvay
• Delivers technical documentation & reports
• Contribute to develop a data-orientated & digital mindset within the Group, delivering training & providing support to Researchers
• Initiate the building of and animate a community of the data management platform key users within the R&I Family
• Supports IT specialists for the integration between different data sources and the development of datalake projects
• Contributes to the delivery of representative data analysis inside data query & data viz tools (Business Intelligence)
• Performs a technical watch on the domain and interact with Researchers to propose new technical opportunities and projects.

Safety: even though the incumbent will not be responsible of lab activities, all Research Staff are responsible for:
• Knowing and following key Solvay safety policies and procedures for the site and the labs
• Demonstrating a safety commitment / behavior,
• Taking action and reporting on any unsafe condition & near miss,
• Attending monthly safety meetings and mandatory training topics,
• Wearing appropriate PPE while in the laboratory

Profile:
Education and Experience:
• Strong scientific educational background (MSc , engineering school or PhD), ideally in the field of chemistry, material sciences or process engineering
• It-technologies enthusiastic, with a first experience in chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, computer sciences, linked to advanced data engineering (eg, relational database design, SQL, Python, matlab, VBA,…), ideally within a context of chemical & experiments database design and management

Skills:
• Expertize in lab informatics tools (ELN, LIMS, SDMS) is a very strong plus
• Strong customer and service orientation
• Open-mindedness & capability to understand business needs within diversified scientific domains
• Good interpersonal skills with ability to train and support less experienced researchers in the technical domain
• Good written and oral capabilities (English mandatory)
• Strong collaboration skills with ability to work in cross functional teams

Additional Information:
The incumbent will be involved in a newly created team gathering R&I & computer sciences skills to deliver an ambitious program about data management at R&I. It will imply many interactions with Corporate & Global Business units R&I labs worldwide, leading up to some occasional travels.
