Job Description

We are currently hiring a R&D Fruit and Veg Innovation Intern to join our team for a 2021 internship on a 6 month contract, in our Little Island site.

We are the concentrate team in PepsiCo (PGCS) working across the Beverage, Nutrition and Snacks categories to deliver concentrate for many of PepsiCo’s mega brands including Gatorade, 7Up and Pepsi. We are at the heart of PepsiCo products, sourcing ingredients to manufacture more than 1,200 recipes for our brands. We are a global organisation, situated in 13 locations across 9 countries offering careers in various functions from Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, R&D, HR and IT. Position Purpose and Primary Accountabilities

To support the team across the following areas - specifications agenda, sugar reduction agenda, database building and potentially lab activities

·  Support the F&V innovation team in building a database for shelf life
·  Compiling data of previous shelf life studies
·  Researching predictive shelf life models for juice
·  Support the build of a nutritional database
·  Requesting information from raw material suppliers
·  Support the specification team on specification updates and creation
·  Support the regulatory affairs team with tasks
·  Researching areas of interest for the team – new ingredients, food legislation, lab equipment
·  Support bench and pilot plant productions of new recipes
·  Shelf life analysis of new developments
These duties include:

·  Researching scientific journals, potential companies, evaluating and proposal of recommended options
·  Liaising with suppliers to gather information
·  Creation of excel databases
·  Providing summaries and presentation on requested areas of interest
·  Maintain good lab practice to a high standard /maintain accurate records
Skills required

·  Undertaking BSc in Nutrition/Food Science/ Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry (or related discipline
·  High degree of initiative
·  High degree of drive and motivation
·  Good communication, verbal and written
·  Confident with excel
·  A good knowledge of basic nutrition and chemistry

·  Strong interest in innovation/product development
·  Team Player
·  Self-starter, self-sufficient and eager to learn
·  Interest in Food and the Food Industry
·  Strong IT Skills in Word & Excel
·  Understanding of instrumentation
·  Excellent people skills

Qualifications/Requirements

ESSENTIAL Criteria i.e. qualifications and/or experience (this will be assessed during short-listing)
Nutrition undergraduate or similar degree (Food Science)

Additional DESIRED qualifications and/or experience

Lab experience elsewhere – not essential
