Job Summary

Provide leadership on shift in partnership with the Shift Manager and Maintenance technician to successfully coordinate and lead manufacturing operations ensuring all work performed is in compliance with Safe Work Practices, Quality Standards, Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies.

Key Accountabilities

The Shift Coordinator is responsible for coordination of production, efficiency, scrap, and resources on shift with secondary ownership of shift maintenance and optimizing equipment downtime.
In absence of the Shift Manager, takes responsible for and accountable for supervising the team in accordance with OHSHA requirements, Mars Health and Safety policies and Safe Work procedures
Owns FMOS implementation for the team (Handovers, Shift Meetings)
Evaluate the individual performance and contribution of all team members and provides input to the Shift Manager on an on-going basis to assist in establishing developmental plans.
Provides input and collaborates with the Shift Manager to Coordinate team engagement.
Implements continuous improvement, recommends improvements and implements upgrades for recurring production issues or process improvements
Actively participates in functional improvement activities such as area teams, changeover reduction activities, scrap reduction activities
Takes ownership of the completion of complicated changeovers and significantly improves the performance of the plant and achieving the business goals of production, quality, hygiene, cost and safety through a focused effort on area reliability.
Follows up on all unresolved production issues with oncoming shift, obtains adequate information from previous shift and ensures overall smooth transition between shifts to maximize continued efficient production
Partners and builds strong ties to other shift Coordinators to ensure alignment between shifts.
Actively tracks and assures accuracy in shift metric measurement to help evaluate both productivity and individual performance and contribution on an on-going basis
Use systems and metrics to guide the initiation and execution of safety, quality, productivity and continuous improvement initiatives in support of the Operations Strategic Plan and Production Plan
Active members and leaders in either the Safety Team or HACCP
Responsible to be a trained internal auditor for the site
Acts as a specialized operations resource to senior management to support resolution of complex technical and operations related issues
Responsibilities shall include shift coverage and flexibility around shift times to allow for meetings etc. as required
Perform additional related duties as required

Proven ability to optimize equipment to meet or exceed product specifications, schedule, and planned rates
Strong Electrical and/or Mechanical aptitude preferred
Computer literacy with Microsoft Office programs and exposure to SAP

Critical Learning Experiences

Minimum Secondary School diploma (Post Secondary Education in a technical field is an asset)
5-10 years of manufacturing experience with significant understanding of plant and manufacturing operations
2-3 years minimum experience as a Shift Designate at Mars preferred (External to Mars- Supervision or management role preferred)
Demonstrated ability to continuously improve an area/equipment operation
