The Process Operator role:

The Process Operator role is responsible for the conversion of raw materials into finished pet food by safely supporting the processing functions of Extrusion, Batching and Receiving. Responsibilities include supplying minor ingredients to the Extrusion area, with additional responsibilities of relieving the Batching, Receiving and Extrusion Operators as needed. The position will specialize in learning all operational aspects of equipment in each area. Processing Operators must have the skill set to train and/or perform the tasks of other associates in the area as needed. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support site objectives. They are responsible for sanitation and pest control for the Processing area in order to provide a clean, safe, orderly environment that exemplifies a world class manufacturing facility

Key Responsibilities:
 Responsible for assisting all areas in maintaining high levels of daily cleanliness and adherence to site GMP's.
 Prioritize work on a daily basis by identifying pressing issues, through communication with each operator, knowing shift production plans and awareness of area.
 Requirements in each area include but are not limited to:
 Receiving - Assist and be able to relieve the receiving operator to unload bulk commodities into the appropriate storage locations using PRMS and cycle counting to maintain accurate in-plant inventories.
 Batching - Relieve the batching operator, dispense minor ingredients to assure accurate batches of mixed meal is delivered through the hammermill and screening system. Assist in cleaning mill building.
 Extrusion - Assist and be able to relieve extruder operator in startup and shutdown of extruders to include being able to resolve quality issues with running kibbles. Sanitizing, movement of grain waste to load trailers, clean coating fines while maintaining hot/cold facility requirements.
 Promote high quality team environment through effective team work and self management with a positive attitude.
 Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and train new associates.
 Performs all assigned activities and job tasks within a line or area
 Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner
 Takes corrective actions in solving problems to root cause level
 Assess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments and malfunction troubleshooting
 Performs and/or works with Maintenance to complete equipment preventive maintenance
 Performs all shift support documentation in a quality matter
 Demonstrates high degree of ownership for product quality: Performs all standard quality checks & other quality related duties
 Understands production schedules

Other Responsibilities:
 This Role is primarily an assistant to the process operators that includes learning each role
in depth.
 Educate others on clean design principles.
 Receive micro training and understand the hazards of cross contamination
 Develop a detailed knowledge of the process flow of the plant.
 Demonstrate ability to perform micro hazard sampling
 Understand traffic, air flow and color code system.
 Maintain Process area repair effectively communicating with maintenance. Escalation of
issues
 Other similar duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Primary qualifications for this job are:
 Most recent Performance appraisal with a minimum of “Meets” expectations and not more
than 1 year old.
 No active disciplinary notices.
 Acceptable attendance (less than 5 incidents and no discipline above an Initial Warning).
Additional Qualifications
 Strong problem solving skills.
 Ability to plan work on a daily basis, work independently and be a self starter and a highly
motivated individual.
 Ability to work with a team and effectively interact with other departments.
 Ability to learn advanced process area equipment operation and be able to back fill any role
 Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effective problem solving.
 Ability to operate a variety of lifts and fork trucks and be OSHA certified on them as
necessary.
 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and complete quality
documentation.
 Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
 Must not be afraid of heights; must be capable of working at elevated heights
 Must not be unusually sensitive to chemicals (contact lenses not recommended).

 Vision correctable to 20/20.

changes in what machines measure or monitor.
 Ability to work varying shifts under stressful conditions such as heat, cold, high and or
confined spaces and have mobility with ability to climb ladders and stairs and do
repetitive bending and twisting.
 Ability to handle tools or equipment.
 Ability to work under tight schedules in high pressure situations.
 While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to wet and/or
humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne
particles; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock.
 The associate is frequently exposed to vibration.
 The associate is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
 The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Minimum Qualifications:
 Be 18 years of age or older
 Have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent education
 Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
 Able to work with minimal supervision
 Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

Preferred Qualifications:

 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines
 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline
 Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email
 Knowledge of inventory control principles
