Purpose of Role

The position is responsible for the development and deployment of new product recipes for canine and feline dry, wet and care & treat products within NA. The position is responsible to support the maintenance of and continuous improvement of recipes for all NA production sites. This position is responsible for working strategically and co-functionally to provide formulation and technical support for existing products, lead new product development and raw material development while maintaining quality design and delivering desired product performance to both the consumer and pet. The position provides close cross-functional partnership with other R&D functions, Supply and Commercial to enable the successful delivery of the business OGSM. The role operates in a pet friendly, open office environment supporting pet nutrition.

Principal Accountabilities

·  Support innovation, renovation and continuous improvement projects by providing recipes, raw materials and formulation support enabling the delivery of product performance targets and attributes.
·  Support the development and implementation of recipes and raw materials in the factory consistent with business processes and company standards.
·  Support quarterly recipe optimization cycles and report on quality and cost.
·  Design and implement raw material testing plans enabling most efficient use of budget available.
·  Responsible to support continuous improvement plan looking at improving our nutritional conformity in line with the set business targets.
·  Responsible to understand supplier capabilities to deliver against our specification targets and drive continuous improvement programs at the site level looking at improving consistency.
·  Responsible to deliver agreed DIB projects and initiatives.
·  Responsible for crisis management when impacting raw materials and recipes of our NA sites.
·  Demonstrate a quality culture in actions, words and spirit.

·  Ownership of recipe software’s nutrient matrix including decisions on the analytical values of incoming raw materials which impact formula cost and affect finished product proximate values.
·  Acceptance Testing of new vendors raw materials including deciding on the test plans and making final recommendation on acceptance of new vendors material.

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

·  Strong knowledge in animal nutrition.
·  Strong knowledge in feed/petfood formulation and nutritional content of raw materials.
·  Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes used to produce feed and petfood ingredients.
·  Strong knowledge of US regulation in regards to raw material usage, safe limits and restriction of usage.
·  Understanding of Petfood consumers, market opportunities, recipes, raw materials and processes constraints.
·  Strong ability to work in multicultural teams and with people coming from different discipline and business areas.
·  Demonstrated excellence in project management and capability to lead cross-functional projects.
·  Intellectually curious to find and develop opportunities.
·  Highly motivated and committed to deliver business results.
·  Ability to communicate and transfer knowledge to others in various forms (presentations, reports, training…)

Minimum Requirements:

·  Masters degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science Technology, Animal Nutrition OR Bachelors degree with 5+ years experience in R&D related roles.
·  Minimum 3 year experience in research and development and/or technical role in the field of raw materials in a business environment and/or recipe formulation.
·  Experience in animal nutrition.
·  Travel up to 10%.

·  Strong knowledge in animal nutrition.
·  Strong knowledge in feed/petfood formulation and nutritional content of raw materials.
·  Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes used to produce feed and petfood ingredients.
