Job Purpose/Overview

The Extrusion operator is responsible and accountable for ensuring they produce quality product, while keeping the feed within the tight specifications according to Q&FS standards (including CCP and any oPRPs), and ensuring the packaging lines the availability to run efficiently. They perform detailed sanitation including equipment breakdown, cleaning, sanitizing and reassembly within given timeline. The Extrusion Operator is responsible for monitoring all equipment up and down the tower as per the walk-through schedule. They are to manage their changeovers within specified time, deliver their product with specified waste range and to trouble-shoot barriers to adherence using the FMOS escalation process within given timelines. Given the complexity of recipes, ingredients and changing conditions (humidity levels) a key purpose of the extruder operator role is to ensure as much consistency as possible and to run within established standard running conditions, managing KQAs that are outside of tolerance and adjusting equipment and process as necessary to ensure product consistency against the specification. During break-times Extruders will be asked to monitor 2 lines while their colleagues are at break so long as they can safely do so while ensuring product consistency is maintained. The work schedule for this role is in shifts that are Rotational Pattern (not fixed shifts), which all applicants should consider when applying for positions.

Key Responsibilities

·  Comply with all Mars and RC Safety Policies
·  All PPE must be worn in compliance to requirements
·  Enforce and respect the safety rules
·  Stop any equipment if safety is in jeopardy and escalate issue
·  Be an actively engaged Associate regarding Behavior-Based Safety Observations
·  Attend all scheduled required safety and quality trainings
·  Comply with Quality and Food Safety Standards
·  Follow all food safety requirements, rules, and standards (ISO 9001, 22000, Mars Standards, GMP/GHP, HACCP, security, pest control, etc.)
·  CCP Extrusion Temperature, Delta T and Dosing knowledge and understanding
·  Clean and sanitize equipment in accordance to food safety standards
·  Inspect packaging materials to insure conformance to specifications
·  Perform and record quality checks to standards
·  Identify, document, and report any quality nonconformance
·  Establish full knowledge and become qualified on how to run both the 165 and the 185 extruders
·  Set up and startup of both extruders
·  Operate extruders and produce within expected efficiencies
·  Monitor extruder for safety/quality/output
·  Perform equipment changeovers - mechanical and control system adjustments
·  Shut down equipment
·  Work closely with mixing operators and packaging operators to maximize efficiency of production
·  Troubleshoot and perform first level area-related maintenance on equipment and support the move toward MSE Autonomous Maintenance.
·  Maintain a safe, organized and efficient work area in compliance to 5S
·  Perform operational cleanings:
·  On shift and end of shift cleanings need to be completed
·  Sanitation cleanings need to be completed as scheduled
·  Operational deep cleanings as designed by Shift Manager or Process Lead
·  Communicate and report production, deviations, etc. appropriately
·  Provide any requested documentation to other departments according to internal rules.
·  Shift changes: Actively engage and communicate with Associates of next shift about machine problems, progress on production schedule, quality issues, etc.
·  Complete all documentation on all production events as required (downtime, quantity, quality checks, CCP, etc.) with an understanding that many documents are regulatory-based and must be completed and signed each shift.
·  Utilize FMOS boards for hour to hour monitoring of results and raising escalations
·  Attend all pre-shift FMOS meetings and actively engage in relevant conversations
·  Actively work on developing oneself using the PDP process
·  Responsibility to be an Engaged Associate
·  Actively have routine constructive conversations within your team around Gallup Q12 wins and opportunities
·  Active involvement and attendance in team Impact Sessions
·  Be responsible to maintain an engaging climate at work and be an active part of the solutions
·  Work overtime as required and train others as needed in the department

Context and Scope

Work as a Process team following the planning schedule to produce product to be sent to the packaging lines. Operate the 185/165 Extruder in a safe and effective manner with minimal supervision. Perform, document, and take responsibility for production/quality checks to insure product is up to Q&FS standards. Support the other extruder operator as necessary. Report any deviations that may occur to the Process Lead or Shift Manager. Help drive down waste by producing as minimal scrap as possible during shift, focusing on changeover efficiencies. Complete end of shift cleaning and perform a proper hand off to oncoming shift. Support all other departments on shift as designated by Shift Manger.

·  Experience in food industry and/or manufacturing preferred
·  Basic computer skills

·  Full range of motion, correctable eyesight and hearing, lifting up to 75 lbs. maximum and tolerance to hot and cold environments required
