POSITION SUMMARY :

The Extruder Operator is responsible for safely operating the extruders to manufacture kibbles in accordance with the Production Schedule. They are responsible for ensuring the product meets all Quality Specifications while complying with all GMP’s. The Extruder Operator works closely with the Mill Room Operator and the Packaging Lead to ensure they are aligned on

Production Cut-Off’s while maximizing efficiencies and minimizing waste/scrap. They are also responsible for the Sanitation of the extruder room area and performing the weekly start-up’s and shutdowns if required. They also are responsible for maintaining and cleaning the equipment and tools/supplies used in the Extrusion area.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES :

·  Operate Extrusion equipment in a safe manner that meets or exceeds production goals.
·  Make equipment adjustments when necessary
·  Change over extrusion equipment following all safety and sanitation procedures
·  Minimize scrap/waste during changeovers
·  Evaluate the Finished Product Quality by visually inspecting the pet food both at the extruder and the dryer to include proper cook, odor and product size. Make adjustments as necessary to correct any issues related to the Quality of the product. Visually inspect the finished product at the cooling conveyor. Ensure the product is going to the correct bin.
·  Record all process checks as required.
·  Collaborate with QA to ensure that issues during the shift are being addressed and that the product is meeting all target specifications. Make adjustments as necessary and involve others (Shift Manager, Operations Support Manager, etc.) as necessary.
·  Maintain the extruder log.
·  Monitor downtime and document downtime by cause.
·  Collaborate with Packaging Lead and Mill Room Operator to maximize efficiencies, minimize downtime and maximize production capabilities.
·  Ensure adherence to all lockout/tag out procedures.
·  Review extrusion requirements and specs for the run to include a review of the formula to ensure that proper coatings (wet and dry) are being applied. Identify any inventory concerns and bring them to the attention of your Manager immediately.
·  Ensure that set-up parameters match the Process Sheets.
·  Monitor and record on a timely basis wet density if necessary.
·  Perform Daily/Weekly sanitation of the extruder room area/floor as required.
·  Maintain clean work environment.
·  Proactively prepare for changeovers by having die plates and knives ready ahead of time.
·  Operate the Extrusion equipment at expected run rates and be able to calculate anticipated changeover or shutdown times.
·  Perform all start-up and shutdown activities.
·  Troubleshoot all problems.
·  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

·  High School Diploma or equivalent required
·  Able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively
·  Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes from hot to cold, dust, dirt and chemicals
·  Ability to solve simple math equations
·  Good communication skills
·  Ability to establish good peer relationship
