JOB SUMMARY

The Marriott International Law Department supports the Company's lodging business. The Europe offices provide legal services for development and lodging operations of all Marriott and Starwood-branded lodging products in Europe. This newly created position is a result of the Marriott-Starwood merger and will report to the Vice President & Senior Counsel – Operations/Asset Management/Employment. The position will be based in London or Eschborn.

The basic functions of this position are to provide paralegal support to the Company in connection with the operations of the Company's owned, leased, managed and franchised hotels in Europe. The Paralegal position assumes a principal role in supporting day-to-day legal needs of Marriott and Starwood managed hotels, the Company's franchise support organization and the Company's above-property services in Europe. It serves as the primary point of contact for hotel managers (and their reports) seeking legal assistance from the Marriott Law Department, working with Group attorneys as appropriate.

The primary responsibilities of this position will be:

Assume a principal role within the Group in supporting day-to-day legal needs of Marriott and Starwood managed hotels, the Company's franchise support organization and the Company's above-property services in Europe.

Serve as the primary point of contact for hotel managers (and their reports) seeking legal assistance from the Marriott Law Department, working with Group attorneys as appropriate.

Assist in preparing, negotiating, and amending vendor, sales and other operational agreements used in Marriott's lodging business.

Review client-generated documents and determine if they are in conformance with Marriott's standard contractual requirements. Discuss with clients and other parties and provide contractual language.

Create and update Law Manager (database) contract summaries for management agreements, franchise agreements and operating leases; maintain and update Law Manager information; prepare transmittal letters of renewal/non-renewal, automatic renewal/termination memoranda; assist in responding to owners and landlords concerning agreement renewals/terminations.

Assist attorneys on, and organize the documentation related to, acquisitions or financings of individual hotels or hotel chains and dispositions of certain hotel properties, including tracking and transfer of files, operational, construction and real estate agreements and other necessary documents.

Conduct and summarize legal research as requested.

·
Draft and respond to legal correspondence and memoranda, including audit inquiries.

·
Perform other duties and special projects as requested.

Qualifications :

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong relationship and organizational skills as follows:

Four-year college degree or equivalent qualifying work experience with an outstanding performance record; paralegal certificate preferred.

· 
Minimum relevant work experience of three years in a law firm or corporate legal environment.

· 
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

· 
Flexibility to adapt to continually changing work priorities and ability to meet simultaneous deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· 
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· 
Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to interact and communicate effectively, specifically:

Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise manner;

Ability to interact effectively and develop positive, professional working relationships with hotel personnel and team members.

Outstanding verbal and written English skills. Proficiency in German, French, Spanish or Russian a plus.
