Search Engine Marketing is one of the largest traffic and revenue drivers for M&S.com with a major ambition to grow both the SEO and PPC channels over the next 3 years. As part of our growth strategy for M&S.com we have made a fundamental and exciting change to the way that we do Search Engine Marketing. Not only have we have hired a new, innovative paid search agency, we have brought our SEO capability fully in-house through the creation of a brand new SEO and “Total Search” team to maximise the opportunities that exist between the paid and organic search channels.

With so much positive change taking place in Search at M&S we have created a number of exciting new roles!

About the role

Within the exciting new role of Assistant Search Manager – Insight, you will be reporting into the Technical and Insight Search Manager working between SEO and PPC; you will be a key point of contact for our entire search team. Y our insights will be used to not only drive visits and revenue from each search channel but ensure we are focusing on driving incremental visits and revenue across both search channels combined.

In this highly visible role you will:

·  Own the tracking, reporting, categorisation and insights of over 250k daily tracked keywords using industry leading enterprise platforms including the full Google Marketing Platform.
·  Work with our technical search experts to identify key issues with the website that may be hampering performance and feed those opportunities for growth back into the wider team
·  Work with our specialist content team and agency partners to ensure we are producing content that our customers are looking for and using the right keywords
·  Support our trading teams with insights into what products our customers are searching for and what is trending
·  Report on daily, weekly and quarterly SEO performance through the creation and management of dashboards

Day to day you will undertake activities including:

·  Keyword Management: Identifying and managing the most commercially valuable keywords for M&S via the natural search channel, ensuring keyword synchronisation across multiple keyword enabled platforms including Pi Datametrics, SEO Monitor and Hitwise.
·  Search Trends Reporting: Creating a monthly search insight report to be delivered both within the search marketing team to inform SEO / PPC / SEM decision making and also inform key stakeholders within M&S of any week on week / year on year changes to customer behaviour e.g. editorial & trading.
·  SEO Performance Reporting: Taking ownership of daily/weekly/monthly SEO reporting utilising a wide range of data sources including Botify, Pi Datametrics, SEOmonitor, Google Search Console, Google Search Ads 360, Adobe Analytics and Hitwise. Not only reporting on performance but clearly identifying the ‘why’ to determine cause and effect of any performance changes or variations to forecast.
·  Insight Dashboards: Creating and managing search dashboards to report on performance / provide real-time insights to the SEO team. Whether it be API enabled or simple integration with Google Data Studio / Power BI you will take the lead on how to best inform the business.
·  Collaborating with SEO, Editorial and Trading teams: Being the keyword research / insight engine for all internal queries relating to content strategy, keyword selection and amplification campaign focus.
·  Total Search: Collaborating with our PPC team / agency to monitor the impact of paid search on natural search performance and identify the key opportunity areas to drive incremental visits and revenue.
·  Search Training : Creating and delivering training sessions to internal and external stakeholders that upskill and inform the wider business about how to read and use search data e.g. Google Trends / Keyword Planner to directly benefit their area.

About you :

·  Proven track record within SEO with a particular focus on content in a fashion or homeware retail business with high SEO traffic, and emphasis on driving ROI. Outline clear KPIs and performance measurements for success specific to each campaign.
·  Collaborative and able to build great working relationships with many stakeholders; writers, editors, designers, marketing, and web developers.
·  Comfortable with working in a high pace retail environment
·  Being a master of Excel with a natural curiosity for problem solving.
·  Ability to communicate ideas clearly, effectively, persuasively to an individual or a group. Excellent grasp of English spelling, punctuation and grammar.
·  Demonstrable experience using a variety of enterprise level search tools
·  Strong presentation skills both to internal senior colleagues and external stakeholders
·  Highly numerate and able to thrive in a fact and data-driven environment
