Job description



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


To ensure implementation, compliance and continuous improvement of the EHS environmental management system as per the L’Oréal requirements. To conduct environment risk assessments on site. To orientate future environmental risk management strategies within the L’Oréal requirements.

Policies and Procedures


• To enforce, manage and monitor the application of the Group regulations and the legislation in its field of activity (EHS, OHS Act and its regulations, National Environmental Management Act, National Water Act, Environmental conservation Act, Water Services Act, etc.).

• To carry out EHS compliance audits

• To draw up and distribute Environment regulations specific to the site


Contractor Management


• Ensure contracting companies are managed according to EHS environmental standards

• Ensure contracting companies manage their work in an environmentally responsible manner.


Project Management


• To ensure that EHS environment rules are applied to all projects and major modifications (personnel, tools, procedures etc.).

• To take part in the formal project reviews with management.


Operations Management


• To set up and enforce an environmental evaluation system.

• To carry out EHS Management system, ISO14001 internal and external compliance audits.

• Communicate and distribute audit results including findings

• To follow up the application of corrective actions on encountered EHS non-compliances.

• To conduct safety validations of equipment, building installations, method of operations with regards to environmental rules

• To organize and conduct environmental risk analyses (general and detailed Safety Hazard Assessment Program (SHAP) evaluations, review and update aspects / Impact Register).

• To draw up and distribute environmental regulations specific to the site.

• Assist with process improvements at the Effluent treatment plant

• Establish and communicate internal environmental operating reports (e.g. recycling, effluents, consumption)

• Manage and report on environmental indicator in L’Oréal Corporate Reporting System

(GRAAL)

•Assist in organizing EHS meetings and working groups (Focus on environment)

•To train and assist departments with the implementation of the relevant elements of the L’Oréal Group and LMM EHS System. (Focus on environment)

•Manage and track the three main KPI’s of Waste, Water and Carbon Emissions

•Management of Waste, Water consumption & Co2 emission, the trending and reporting

•And any other duties and responsibilities that your EHS & Facilities Manager might deem necessary


PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED


Problem solving


•Determines site specific legal requirements and recommends corrective and remedial actions

•Facilitates incident investigations (Root Cause Analysis)


Planning


•Assists in formulating the annual and 3 year plan for EHS & Facilities department

•Assists in formulating annual budget

•Plans and schedules internal and external audits

•Co- ordinates follow up meetings and action plans


Decision making


•Selects external consultants for environment related training and/ or consultation

•Assists with the select of external company for the management of site waste.

•Good verbal communication, pays attention to detail, methodical, diplomatic, able to handle pressure/conflict, results-orientated, good numerical ability, people management skills, team player, able to retain optimism despite setbacks, self-motivated


EDUCATIONAL & TRAINING REQUIRED

Qualification


BSC Chemical Engineering

BTECH/ Diploma in Chemical engineering


Knowledge


•Working knowledge of relevant local legislation (e.g. National Environment Management Act, National Water Act, Environment Conservation Act, Water Services Act)

•Working knowledge of ISO14001 standards

•Expert knowledge of L’Oréal standards (EHS )

  •Risk management ability, Strong interpersonal skills, negotiations skills, computer literate

Experience


Minimum 5 years working experience in an operations environment, preferably in industrial / manufacturing environment

Minimum 2 years’ experience working with processes

University Graduate undertaking the L’Oréal Pepeniere program
