Job description

Our IT function supports various projects in software development in line with our Kuehne+Nagel Group Strategy. We now have an opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our Nottingham office on a full time, permanent basis.

Your Role

You’ll be experienced in the development field, specifically as a Node.js Developer, working as part of a team which provides country specific software across our group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). This will involve the initial design, development and writing of code alongside appropriate testing and implementation. Our team is spread across the UK, Germany, Finland and Estonia, so the ability to work independently, proactively engage with the stakeholders invested in the projects and to work with remote partners is critical to the function of the department and our team. Your work will span all of Kuehne+Nagel’s business units (Airfreight, Seafreight, Overland and Contract Logistics) with your primary focus being our Contract Logistics business.

Your Responsibilities

·  Create Software design within agreed timescales - develop code and solutions for your allocated projects
·  Delivery of software within agreed timescales – it’s important that we deliver to project deadlines whilst maintaining industry best practice
·  Work in close collaboration with various Kuehne + Nagel teams and stakeholders, whether it’ the super user, project sponsor or end user – it’s vital that our Software Engineer’s communicate effectively
·  System Documentation – adherence to our documented coding standards and adherence to industry standard best practice especially around security standards
·  Creation and running of Unit tests before launch to eliminate risk of disruption to the business

Your Skills and Experiences

·  Experience of Node.js is essential for this role
·  We would also love you to have OpenShift, Docker, PostGres experience – this would be desirable
·  Experience of Web Development essential - browser essential
·  CSS / HTML / JavaScript / Bootstrap or similar browser
·  Ideally, a University degree in a software related discipline, if you’re qualified by experience then that would be ideal as well
·  Innovative flair with an ability to use own initiative as well as being task and goal orientated with a proactive approach and deadline oriented
·  A systematic, logical and methodical approach would be beneficial to manage conflicting demands - our team is relaxed but able to rise to challenges at short notice and work collaboratively with our internal customers 
·  Excellent communication skills and initiative are critical in this role to ensure stakeholders are advised and updated throughout the projects
