The Role
We are seeking an analyst to help ensure that applications in the Python ecosystem offer industry-leading performance when run on the POWER microprocessor.

Your Impact
As part of the team that designed the #1 & #2 fastest supercomputers in the world, you will be part of a high profile initiative to optimize performance across all layers of the Python software stack for Power. At the heart of this effort lies analysis of how Python code is executed on the microprocessor. You'll use data from workload profiles and instruction-level traces to identify bottlenecks in the software stack as well as to provide insights into opportunities for hardware-level improvements in future processor versions. This project provides opportunities for innovation in HW design as well as exploitation of leading-edge hardware architectures in upcoming processors.

Description
Through an in-depth analysis of existing Python applications involving data transformation, ML/DL and other data-centric operations, you'll help determine where optimization needs to happen. You'll work closely with Python runtime developers to optimize interpreter and JIT behavior for POWER. You'll also collaborate closely with compiler developers when opportunities are identified that can be addressed through enhancements to the compilers that build Python and core native libraries. You'll also run workloads on competitive platforms to understand relative areas of strength and challenge. Deliverables will include code improvements, tuning recommendations and whitepapers as well as sales collateral. You'll share the insights you gain with hardware design teams to improve next-generation hardware.

Key Qualifications
·  Deep knowledge of modern microprocessor design, preferably the POWER ISA;
·  Experience working with interpreters or JITs (e.g., Numba, PyPy);
·  Understanding of memory layout, multi-threading, micro-architecture implications;
·  Strong C/C++ programming experience;
·  Experience with one or more acceleration technologies (GPU, FPGA, custom ASIC, SIMD Etc.)
·  Experience optimizing software using instruction-level data
·  Ability to work in a team, network with people outside of the team and effectively communicate in written and verbal presentations is essential.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

·  3+ years experience with microprocessor design
·  3+ years with C or C++ programming
·  Experience with applying profiling and tracing techniques to conduct performance analysis on a complex SW stack
