Job description

IBM in Rochester Minnesota has an immediate opening for an Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Interference (EMC/EMI) Design and Test Engineer. IBM has a world class EMC/EMI lab located in Rochester MN that supports product testing from nearly every IBM development site. Our engineers have the chance to work on best-in-class systems and technologies, as well as the most advanced and cost-effective on demand supply chain in the industry.
Job responsibilities include:
- Perform design reviews of schematic for proper filtering and grounding, card layout analysis with EMC analysis software
- Review and assist in design of electrical and mechanical subsystems for proper EMC/EMI practices
- Assist in the bring up and configuring of early hardware when it arrives into the lab for testing
- Prepare hardware test plans/schedules centered around EMC/EMI testing requirements of server and storage products
- Perform emissions and immunity testing on server hardware and troubleshooting EMC problems encountered
- Communicate with various development groups to provide EMC guidance and to resolve EMC failures efficiently
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger design team is important
- Create and review EMC testing reports to support multiple geographies around the world
We are looking for a “hands-on” engineer who is willing to perform the above functions in a lab based environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in performing EMC tests and trouble shooting failures in a lab environment using equipment such as spectrum analyzers, pre- amplifiers, antennas, EMI probes, and oscilloscopes.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Bachelor's Degree or Masters in Engineering
Basic knowledge and interest (through school or work experience) in the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design and testing
Basic knowledge in the use of oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and other electrical test equipment Basic knowledge in Linux/Unix operating systems
Well versed in using Microsoft Office
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong teamworking skills
