We are now inviting qualified individuals to join this team in the role of Resilience Risk Steward, Malaysia.

Global Risk

Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, pension, insurance, compliance, regulatory, market, reputation and geopolitical risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

Resilience Risk is defined as: the ability to adapt operations to continue functioning, when – not if – circumstances change. Resilience Risk covers the following risk areas: Information Security Risk (“ISR”); Systems, Data & Transaction Processing (“SDTP”); Corporate Security Risk (“CSR”) and Third Party Risk (“TPR”).

Drawing on support from the core Risk Stewardship team, and your own stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, as well as partnering with other risk management teams across the first and second line within HSBC Malaysia and its supporting global functions, you will deliver these objectives and fundamentally improve understanding and control of Resilience Risk across HSBC's Malaysia business.

The incumbent will be the key interface between the HSBC Malaysia business and the newly established Risk Steward Function for Resilience Risk that directly supports the Group's Chief Risk Officers to exercise their responsibilities within HSBC, one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations. The purpose of the Risk Steward function is to ensure that HSBC stays within its appetite for Resilience Risk, enabling over 250,000 colleagues across HSBC to deliver safe and secure services to all our customers, colleagues across the Group.


Principal Responsibilities:
· Defining and Setting, and communicating Risk Appetite with the GCOO and HSBC's four Global Businesses
· Setting Group wide Policy necessary to deliver the desired Appetite
·
Overseeing the adoption of Standards, Processes, and Procedures by the Global Businesses and Global functions required to enact the Policy

·
Enforcing robust risk governance and ensuring all stakeholders have visibility of key risks that are outside of Appetite

·
Monitoring performance against Appetite and delivering challenge to the Global Businesses and Functions

·
Advise the Global Businesses in taking additional risk where there is Risk Appetite to do so

·
Reviewing the adequacy of Policy and updating as appropriate

·
Providing advice on control environment remediation where required

The role is particularly critical in the context of increased internal (e.g. HSBC Board) as well as external attention to identify, measure, evaluate, control and manage operational risk effectively and is a key component in our determination to adopt and enforce the highest standards in HSBC. It requires the incumbent to provide guidance and advice to key Senior Stakeholders including the HSBC Malaysia Chief Operating Officer and product owners across HSBC's businesses within the Malaysia. The incumbent will need to be able to challenge senior leaders on the control performance and escalate risk and issues appropriately and effectively.

As a senior Leader within the Risk Stewardship Function, the incumbents is also expected to:

Set and execute an engagement strategy to improve the understanding and control of Resilience Risk across the end-to-end transaction cycle

Work with the HSBC Malaysia leadership and controls team to understand the end-to-end control environment for Resilience Risk across the suite of HSBC Products and Services in the Malaysia.

·
Report Monthly, on the health of the end-to-end control environment within HSBC's Products and Services in the Malaysia.

·
Partner with the Businesses and their supporting Functions to identify and assess new risks within the HSBC's Products and Services in the Malaysia and also opportunities for both control rationalisation, and reduction in control costs through opportunities to take more risk within appetite.

·
Role model a culture of commercial awareness in understanding and controlling risk.

·
Manage internal and external audit requirements for Resilience Risk within and across HSBC Malaysia.

Desired profile



Qualifications :

Requirements :
· 
Previous experience in management of Resilience risk within a global organisation, working across cultures.

· 
Ability to present complex issues confidently and concisely to Senior Executives, Non-Executive Directors and Regulators, using simple language and accommodating globally distributed stakeholders.

· 
Comprehensive knowledge of the external environment (risk, regulatory, political, competitors etc.).

· 
Outstanding relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills with experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior executives.

· 
Practical experience of identifying and managing risk as part of major business transformation activities.

· 
Strong analytical understanding / mindset

· 
Broad knowledge of sector trends and regulatory environment

·  Act with courageous integrity in decision making
·

·  Communicate openly and honestly.
·  Be inclusive and collaborative.
· 
Excellent understanding of other areas of risk including operational, small business and macroeconomy

Good Understanding of business areas outside of Risk e.g., Collections, Product, Finance, etc.

Good understanding of HSBC overall business dynamics, particularly Retail Banking

·  Strong leadership skills for constantly changing risk environment
·  Experiences in working with auditors, regulators and compliance
·  Expertise in project management and good interpersonal skills
·  Great leader in talent management, communication and influencing
