Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all Group functions, the team advises on and takes an active involvement in all business and operational strategies and initiatives, from legislative and regulatory matters to the setting of policies, standards and procedures for guarding against and reporting on legal risk and reputational management issues.

We are now inviting qualified individuals to join this team in the role of Legal Counsel, Global Markets.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Providing legal advice and guidance to our Global Markets (GM) business. This will involve providing first class legal support to the transactional /coverage teams within this business line, and include providing legal support for a broad range of markets matters across a variety of sectors.
• Acting as a trusted adviser to GM by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner.
• Supporting the Senior Legal Counsel and the General Counsel in the management of legal risk arising within the GM business, including ensuring any matters arising from legal issues are managed and mitigated promptly, with remedial action initiated in line with the materiality of the risk or issue.
• Proactively and promptly advising and engaging the business and senior legal management of material legal issues or developments and their implications.

Desired profile



Qualifications :

To be successful in this position you will need:

• To be an Australian qualified lawyer with 4-6 years of post-qualification experience.
• Top tier law firm experience.
• In-house experience with a leading financial institution would be an advantage.
• Strong derivatives and global markets experience essential.
• Strong banking and finance transactional experience would be an advantage.
• Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of matters, from complex to routine (independently and with appropriate support as required).
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced and flexible culture requiring management of competing priorities under deadline pressure.
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to build credibility with business teams and other stakeholders.
• Team player who works collaboratively and in an inclusive manner.
