Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2019 and beyond, we are currently seeking a number of experienced Java Developers to join HSBC Technology.


Brief overview of the business areas

What you will be doing;


The full stack Engineering job is accountable for leading in working across the Technology delivery lifecycle including inception, construction, testing, release and ongoing management of a product or service in a pod within a Technology team.

They will be required to continually enhance their skills within a number of specialisms which include front end, development, security, testing, and operational support.

This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:

· Provide support across the end-to-end delivery and run lifecycle, utilising their skills and expertise to carry out software development, testing and operational support activities with the ability to move between these according to demand.
· End to end accountability for a product or service, identifying and developing the most appropriate Technology solutions to meet customer needs as part of the Customer Journey
· Liaise with other engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to understand and drive the product or service's direction.
· Establish a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data.
· Create technical test plans and records, including unit and integration tests, within automated test environments to ensure code quality.
· Provide support to DevOps teams working at all stages of a product or service release/change with a strong customer focus and end to end journeys, ensuring they have an excellent domain knowledge.
· Working with Ops, Dev and Test Engineers to ensure operational issues (performance, operator intervention, alerting, design defect related issues, etc.) are identified and addressed at all stages of a product or service release / change.
· Provide support in identification and resolution of all incidents associated with the IT service, as directed by leadership of the DevOps team,
· Ensure service resilience, service sustainability and recovery time objectives are met for all the software solutions delivered.
· Responsible for automating the continuous integration / continuous delivery pipeline within a DevOps Product/Service team driving a culture of continuous improvement.
· Keep up to date and have expertise on current tools, technologies and areas like cyber security and regulations pertaining to aspects like data privacy, consent, data residency etc. that are applicable

Qualifications :

What you will bring to the role;

To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:

Essential Experience:
·  8+ years of experience in working in large, fast-paced environments.
·  Experience of development and maintenance of complex, low-latency applications.
·  Experience of working with Data warehousing solution
·  Experience of supporting mission-critical applications.
·  Proven track record in development
·  Proven ability to translate group standards and best practice into practical application locally, proposing creative solutions and driving implementation
·  Proven ability to communicate effectively
·  Proven track record of technical leadership and pushing technical change in complex and challenging environment
·  Fluency in Java (min. v1.8) coding.

Essential skills/competencies:
·  Team player.
·  Ability to work flexibly.
·  Able to assimilate new knowledge quickly and adaptable to change.
·  Ability to work in a team on call rota supporting 24/7
·  Analytical skills to assist in the resolution of complex issues that may be time sensitive.
·  Good communication skills, written, verbal and presentational – including communication to end-users and senior Business stakeholders

Ideal experience
·  Experience of working with MongoDB
·  Experience of other programming languages – especially C++, Python and JavaScript.
·  Experience of working with messaging technologies – especially Solace.
·  Experience of performance management, communications protocols and a broad range of technologies
·  Experience of monitoring and maintaining tools such as InfluxDB and ELK.
·  Experience of Agile methodologies and delivering application change in an Agile fashion.

These roles will primarily be London site based at our Head Office in Canary Wharf
