Role Title: Ways of Working Adoption Lead

Business Context

HSBC Technology have been on a journey to transform technology in financial services, using the latest digital tools and methodologies to make our customers' banking experience simpler, better, faster and more secure. Transforming our ways of working has been pivotal to this; changing the way we think about, design and bring new ideas to life for our customers.

Practices were established to manage professional disciplines across the Technology function. The Architecture & Design Practice brings together 1,200+ architects from across the organisation into a coherent community regardless of reporting lines and hierarchy.

To manage the Architecture and Design discipline the Practice will:

· Foster Community and Collaboration across the architects; develop a professional network who share best practice and experience to build skills and expertise.

· Own the definition and adoption of Career and Talent Management Frameworks across the Practice, in line with HR, including performance management and pay and reward.

· Define, implement and monitor Process, Methods and Controls that are consistently adopted across the Practice and adhere to broader risk and control frameworks.

· Publish and publicise Patterns and Standards to be used across the enterprise which drive standardisation and reusability of technology implementations.

· Implement Tools and Techniques which promote consistent ways of working and reusability of assets across the Practice. Manage vendor relationships associated with Practice capabilities.

Role Purpose

Ways of Working within the Architecture & Design Practice encompasses Architecture Methods & Tools, Architecture Governance and Architecture Controls. The Ways of Working Adoption Lead is a visible advocate of our ways of working and will drive their consistent adoption across the Practice. Fulfilling a ‘voice of the customer' role they will be pivotal in defining product backlogs to constantly evolve and mature our Ways of Working. Key deliverables include:

· Develop an expert level of understanding of the Architecture Ways of Working and their associated value to the Architecture & Design Practice.

· Create and deliver initiatives that increase awareness of our Ways of Working across the Practice and provide training solutions to enable effective adoption.

· Design and implement a solution for Architects from across the Practice to obtain support and guidance when they are faced with Ways of Working adoption challenges.

· Act as a ‘voice of the customer' to feedback adoption challenges into Product Owners and their product backlog to support the continual evolution and maturity of the Architecture Ways of Working.

· Design and implement action-orientated metrics to measure the effectiveness of our ways of working adoption across the Architecture & Design Practice.

· Consult with the Chief Architects and their representatives to generate and implement action plans to improve adoption effectiveness in their respective areas.

· Build strong communities of practice applicable to our Ways of Working who are advocates within their respective areas.

Major Challenges

The Architecture and Design Practice is one of a limited number of functions whose scope extends across the breadth of HSBC including all GB's, GF's and Regions. The Ways of Working Adoption Lead will be operating across this matrix and geographical boundaries and is likely to obtain conflicting needs and demands from across the Practice. It will be necessary to conduct effective prioritisation based on value for the Practice and be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.

The prominence of the Architecture & Design Practice has increased significantly throughout 2019 with significant demand being placed on the team to increase the maturity of the Practice. It will be necessary to create a sense of urgency, pace and collaboration with colleagues to execute the key deliverables and ensure foundational components of the Practice are established and evolved to a high standard.

Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge areas:

· Technology Architecture & Design professional discipline and associated tools, methods and frameworks (required)

· Software / System Development Life Cycle and associated tools and methods (required)

· Agile methodology and DevOps ways of working (inc. DevOps tooling) (required)

· Familiarity with financial services organisations and more specifically HSBC's structures, values, behaviours, processes and objectives (desirable)

Organisational Experience:

· Working within a large, complex and geographically dispersed organisation with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural diverse work environments

· Building high-performing functions fostering diversity and strong team-orientated ways of working

· Evidence of strategic leadership and management balancing personal and authentic leadership style which educates, inspires, and motivates teams and fosters community amongst disparate practice members
