Job description



Team Background

This role sits within the Capital Reporting team within Regulatory Finance Systems, part of the Finance IT group supporting HSBC's Global Markets (investment banking) organisation. The team is made up of around 40 DevOps Engineers in India and China with Programme and Project Management function in UK. This team is primarily responsible for the following regulatory requirements –

· Counterparty Credit Risk (RWA)
· Exposure data for Leverage Calculation
· Non-significant holdings
· Stress Testing

The team is currently engaged with a stream of mandatory regulatory capital programmes that include new Standardised Approach to CCR (SA-CCR), Stress Testing (PRA/ECB/HKMA) and Basel III reforms.

The Moody's Analytics suite of risk management products is utilised. In addition to using the Moody's analytics products the technologies currently being utilised in the team are Unix/Linux, Oracle, IBM Data stage and Control-M.

This team has begun a journey towards new architecture that demands the use of new cloud ready technology e.g. PySpark, Beam, Airflow etc.

Role Objectives

- Ensure HSBC standards are applied throughout to ensure a high quality delivery

- Liaising with FCM and Business User to get the sign-off

- Acceptance testing result verification

- Prepare Solution proposals with Clear Choice and getting them approved in Design Review Forum.

- Supporting the development and testing stages of the change request through to implementation.

- Respond to user queries in timely fashion involving production.

- Able to comprehend and translate complex and advanced functional, technical and business requirements into executable architectural designs.

- Creating and maintaining technical documentation.

- Coordinate with internal teams to understand user requirements and provide technical solutions

- Participate in L3 Support activities

- Participate in the development and testing stages of the project through to implementation.

- Develop back-end components to improve responsiveness and overall performance

- Integrate user-facing elements into applications

- Implement security and data protection solutions

- Assess and prioritize feature requests

- Create Scala/Spark jobs for data transformation and aggregation

- Write Scaladoc-style documentation with all code

Skills Required - Essential

- 10 years of proven DEVELOPMENT work experience on Python, Java.

- Expertise in at least one popular Python framework (like Django, Flask or Pyramid)

- Knowledge of object-relational mapping (ORM)

- Familiarity with front-end technologies (like JavaScript and HTML5)

- Work experience as an Apache Spark framework includes

- Spark query tuning and performance optimization

- SQL database integration

- Experience working with

- Deep understanding of distributed systems (e.g. CAP theorem, partitioning, replication, consistency, and consensus)

- Demonstrable experience in the areas described above in a medium to large software delivery environment

- A proven track record of the successful delivery of large scale projects in previous domains to tight deadlines

- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal

- Effective communication skills

- High levels of enthusiasm and a desire to deliver the best quality products possible along with maintaining very high service levels

- Strong technical skills to fully understand the development process

- Knowledge of effective delivery practices within an agile/scrum delivery cycle

- Good problem-solving skills

Skills Required - Beneficial

- Exposure to Ray Calculation tool is a big plus

- Excellent data management and analysis skills, capable of manipulating big data sets

- Exposure to Basel II/Basel III, Credit Risk is good to have

- Prior experience in risk reporting engagements is an additional plus

- Prior experience of working on Elastic Cloud storage of Amazon is a great addition
