Role Purpose
· GBM Business Architect is a key role, based within the GBM Chief Operating Office team in London, reporting to the EMEA GBM Head of Design & Architecture.
· The Global Banking and Markets COO is positioned as a key role in the senior management layer of GBM Executive Committee. The GBM COO is responsible for cost governance & remediation, operational risk management, business operations and, key to this role, strategic enablement. Strategic enablement is the capability of business design & architecture, through transformation solutions and into change delivery. The GBM Business Architect role is the key in thorough and cyclical review and redesign of both the business function operating models and key project operating models within those functions, in conjunction with each business unit's own change and architecture teams.
· The scale and diversity of the activities across our countries provide a unique challenge. Service centres now collectively account for the largest headcount in GBM COO and will be a large focus in the near term. Further to this, the breadth of products; from Security Services, through to Capital Markets, requires the role holder to have vast sell side experience.
· The successful candidate will be expected to be a strategy thought contributor, who is instrumental in the delivery of multiple, global, related GBM Design & Architecture projects. The job holder contributes to the design and development of architectures that are aligned with Group standards, corporate & business strategy, meet business objectives and satisfy all relevant regulatory and operational risk controls. The standards expected are those of an external consultancy.
· The role holder may also be required to act as a spokesperson for the EMEA GBM Lead and contributes to the development of Group standards, and identifies and implements new practices, processes and technologies where required. The job holder mentors less experienced staff members and promotes an understanding of the value of Design & Architecture, and of use of processes, technologies and standards across multiple asset classes and regions.
· Strong Design & Architecture and strategy experience is key, along with a strong understanding of new techniques in solving target operating models. Further knowledge of big data, automation, distributed ledger technologies and digital delivery is also required to ensure that they can collaborate and contribute to the wider GBM innovation strategy.
· This role will be based in London, however facing off to a global stake holder audience.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

Support the EMEA and Global Head of Design & Architecture for target operating model development and normalization;

·
Contribute to the development and implementation of global Design & Architecture strategy and standards;

·
Work with technology and data architects within the business to ensure solutions are deployable and effective;

·
Ensure that process modelling, tools and the accepted best practice techniques and standards provided by HSBC are utilised;

·
Actively promote the benefits of Design & Architecture, accepted best practice techniques, standards and tools to other areas of the Group and external suppliers where necessary;

·
Ensure the highest level of quality for all activities and products within relevant field of influence by providing a consultancy role to business teams where appropriate;

·
Introduce new techniques, products, services, technologies and standards where needed, via the appropriate channels and in agreement with the rest of global Design & Architecture;

·
Where appropriate, provide full life cycle business architectural guidance to change and delivery teams and ensure quality deliverables;

· Mentor and coach less experienced members of staff;
·
Stay abreast of transformation trends and advise the business about potential benefits/impacts;

·
Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group's standards of ethical behaviour.

· Understand and articulate Design & Architecture issues across the GBM business for EMEA and identify the concrete business benefits to be achieved by addressing those issues
· Provide thought-leadership in shaping the solutions to those issues
· Coordinate, manage and prioritise all demand for improvement, within that domain, ensuring alignment with operational strategy for all sub-functions

· Motivate the broader COO team (matrix) to focus on key architecture issues and deliver high performance, high energy, and high focus
· Promote effective communication across the COO team so the ‘team' understands how to come together to deliver success

· Lead by example – deal with others as one wants to be dealt with, exert discipline and focus in overcoming challenges, speak up about perceived issues rather than ‘sweeping it under the rug', and promote the ethos of a winning team rather than a winning individual

Management of Risk
· The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.
· This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviours that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators.
· The jobholder is responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks in their day to day operations. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structure referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defence'. The jobholder should ensure they understand their position within the Three Lines of Defence, and act accordingly in line with operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure of actions required.
· Through the implementation the Global AML, Sanctions and ABC Policies, supporting Guidance, and Line of Business Procedures the jobholder will make informed decisions in accordance with the core principles of HSBC's Financial Crime Risk Appetite.

· The jobholder has responsibility for overseeing and ensuring that Operational risks are managed in accordance with the Group Standards Manual, Risk FIM, & relevant guidelines & standards. The jobholder should comply with the detailed expectations and responsibilities for their core role in operational risk management through ensuring all actions take account of operational risks, and through using the Operational Risk Management Framework appropriately to manage those risks.
This will be achieved by:
· Continuously reassessing risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
· Ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring, addressing areas of concern in conjunction with Risk and relevant line colleagues, and also by ensuring that actions resulting from points raised by internal or external audits, and external regulators, are correctly implemented in a timely fashion.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

A significant track record of GBM Design & Architecture, Target Operating Model and strategic delivery.

Proven strategic thinker and thought leader with subject matter expertise across the GBM product classes, capabilities, business domains and technical faculties

Ability to prioritise work within competing demands, to successfully deliver services to agreed levels in a diverse and constantly changing technical and business environment

Ability to synthesize through excellent written and oral communications skills

Logical and practical – ability to see the wood through the trees and act on it
