Role Summary/Purpose

A TVC Test Engineer is accountable for defining the validation plan to mitigate design risks, designing mechanical test setups for subcomponent testing, and overseeing testing internally and at external labs to support global engineering projects in wind turbine blade development.
Essential Responsibilities

• Define and execute test plans for global programs utilizing in-house test equipment, laboratory on NASA facility, and external qualified labs.
• The test engineer will define the mechanical testing needed to validate the technology related to wind blade manufacturing. This can include design of the test component itself, test loads and deflections, test equipment and fixtures needed, and data and failure analysis. Testing will include the range from coupon level to larger composite structures, for static and fatigue testing.
• Overseeing test operation on in-house rigs, ensuring Test Specialist is following defined test protocol, instrumentation, data collection and analysis
• Managing decisions on testing internally and at external labs
• Create drawings of composite test components and test setups/fixtures when necessary
• Perform strength calculations to ensure proper test equipment and fixtures when necessary
• Align to LM standard test methods when applicable
• Design new test methods for qualifying new technologies, materials, composite structures
• Write, approve and publish new test methods in LM databases
• Present test methods and results to stakeholders
• Proficient at Microsoft suite (Word, PPT, Excel)
Qualifications/Requirements

Master’s in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, Structural or related field OR
Bachelor’s in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, Structural or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
Minimal travel required, up to 30 days a year
