Role Summary/Purpose

As a Research Scientist-Material & Process Modeling you will conduct research on advanced composite materials including Polymer Matrix Composites (PMCs) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs). The focus of this position will be on maturation of novel composites and manufacturing processes, from fundamental research and development through commercialization, via process modeling.
Essential Responsibilities

You will: 

·  Perform
hands-on experiments
·  Develop
manufacturing processes for new and existing composite materials (PMCs and
CMCs) in a lab and production relevant environment
·  Utilize
process modeling tools such as COMPRO, Comsol, Matlab, PAM-RTM, Fluent etc to
develop analytical models for various composite processing techniques
·  Perform
analysis/test correlation
·  Characterize
and quantify material evolution during processing of composite materials
·  Collaborate
with GE's internal product departments, global R&D sites, external and
internal material developers, strategic suppliers, and universities
·  Invent
and patent when appropriate 
·  Deliver
effective presentations, reports, publications to GE Global Research, GE
businesses, government agencies, and professional societies when appropriate

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Ph.D in Materials
Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field with a strong background in composite processing or MS Degree inMaterials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field with a strong background in composite processing and a minimum of 3 years
of experience
·  Experience with
at least one of the following composite manufacturing methods: open molding,
vacuum bag molding, compression molding, autoclave molding, resin transfer
molding (RTM)
·  Experience
with materials modeling
·  Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. 
·  Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY. 
·  Must be 18 years or
older.

Desired Characteristics

·  Strong knowledge
of various composite manufacturing methods: open molding, vacuum bag molding,
compression molding, autoclave molding, resin transfer molding (RTM)
·  Experience with
multi-physics process modeling or process modeling with tools such as COMPRO,
Comsol, or PAM-RTM
·  Experience with
Finite Element Modeling
·  Understanding of
microstructure-property-process relationships for fiber reinforced composites
·  Experience
with the development of characterization and test methods for composites
·  Experience
with statistical analysis, data analytics, and statistical process control
·  Experience
in a manufacturing setting
·  Experience with characterization
tools such as mechanical test frames, spectroscopy, optical and scanning
electron microscopes,  X-ray diffraction,
and RGA
·  Demonstrated
ability to adapt to multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced dynamic working
environment 
·  Demonstrated
ability to solve complex technical problems 
·  Demonstrated
excellence in research through peer reviewed publications
·  Excellent
oral and written communication skills
