The focus of this position will be on maturation of novel composites and manufacturing processes, from fundamental research and development through commercialization, via multi-physics process modeling.
Essential Responsibilities

You will:

·  Design advanced multi-physics simulations to comprehensively capture material behavior and process dynamics related to the manufacturing of fiber reinforced composites
·  Develop theoretical framework to describe the chemical and microstructural evolution of composite systems based on process variables and raw material variability
·  Design and carryout experiments to validate model predictions and provide further understanding into modeled physics and theory
·  Utilize finite element modeling tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, FLUENT, ABAQUS, COMPRO, PAM-RTM to build multi-physics applications for various composite processing steps
·  Support the development of manufacturing processes for new and existing composite materials (PMCs and CMCs)
·  Perform analysis/test correlation
·  Characterize and quantify material evolution during processing of composite materials
·  Collaborate with GE's internal product departments, global R&D sites, external and internal material developers, strategic suppliers, and universities
·  Invent and patent when appropriate
·  Deliver effective presentations, reports, publications to GE Global Research, GE businesses, government agencies, and professional societies when appropriate

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field with a background in composite processing or MS degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in composite processing
·  Strong knowledge of mass transport phenomena and chemical reaction kinetics
·  Experience coupling transport mechanism with mass, momentum, and energy balances
·  Experience with Finite Element packages such as COMSOL, ANSYS, FLUENT, ABAQUS, COMPRO, PAM-RTM
·  Experience with at least one of the following composite manufacturing methods: open molding, vacuum bag molding, compression molding, autoclave molding, resin transfer molding (RTM)
·  Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
·  Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
·  Must be 18 years or older.
·  You must submit your application for employment on the careers page at www.gecareers.com to be considered.

Desired Characteristics

·  Strong knowledge of various composite manufacturing methods: open molding, vacuum bag molding, compression molding, autoclave molding, resin transfer molding (RTM)
·  Experience with multi-physics process modeling or process modeling with tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, FLUENT, ABAQUS, COMPRO, PAM-RTM
·  Experience correlating microstructural properties and defects to mechanical performance and manufacturability of fiber reinforced composites
